Any Lansing Community College students?

I was just trying to see if there are any other LCC students/recent grads on here. I was an alternate last year and unfortunately a seat never opened up but just about 2 weeks ago got my acceptance letter. I will be a January starter instead of August but I guess that is better than nothing! Gives me more time to save up money and do some pre-reading of the textbooks (yes I can be a dork).

Hi, I am new to this board and I am currently attending LCC. First of all congratulations on getting accepted. I'm taking pre-nursing classes right now. If you don't mind I would like to ask you a few questions. Did you complete all the pre-nursing classes before you applied (pharmacology, micro, etc.). Also do you know how many points will get you in, like what is the minimum? I would really like to apply spring 2007. I would appreciate any other tips from you.

I had all of the pre-req, co-req classes done when I applied this time. This time around I believe I had in the area of 80 out of the 90 points possible. Last year when I was an alternate I did not have micro, pharm, or psyc 205 done and I had 69 points. Last year 70 points got you a definate seat and they said for this time to expect to need 74-75 points to get a seat. They say that the points needed goes up approxmately 4 points each year. So I would expect that for the 2007 deadline you would need around 78 points.

I did notice that they revamped the points scale for the 2007 deadline. I didn't look at it very closely so I am not exactly sure what they changed. It is getting very competitive and I think at some point they may have to totally overhaul the admission criteria. They have over 1000 people apply each year for 160 seats. Of those 1000 people, over 200 people have a bachelors or a masters in another discipline. They are starting an accelerated program for people that have another bachelors/masters in 2007 so that should increase the seats available.

Personally, I have a 3.9 gpa, max points for credits, max points for residency, 15 points for a previous bachelors degree, points for work experience, and I took the chse 120 class that gives you 2 extra points.

I hope some of this info helps!

Wow!! I live in the Detroit area, but have family in Lansing and was curious about LCC's program. That is amazing they have over 1000 applicants per year. I suppose my program is not all that bad after all. We have an average of 300 applicants twice a year. Our school accepts 240 students per year and we do not use the point system. We have to have all pre req's done and at least a 2.5 GPA, but they say the lowest to get in is 2.9. Good luck to you all. How is MSU's program? I know a few girls to go there from my area and they did not like it. They transferred back to Metro Detroit.

Hi Anna!! Congratulations on being accepted. The changes made for Phase 2 Points for 2007 is now a bachelors/associates degree are worth the same points (10 points.) As opposed to bachelors degree was worth 15 points and associates was worth 10. I think this is a good change because I will have my associates this semester. I also applied this year but didn't finish Math 112 in time. After this semester I will have all my pre reqs done. It would be great to stay in touch with people attending LCC.

Hi I am new to this sight I live in the brighton area of michigan. Has anyone heard of Brown Mackie College in Ohio?

They have a Program that starts new every month ! You can only get a LPN that is the bad part. $250 a creit is it worth all that money to just get an LPN.

I wonder how hard it is to get into the RN part after you have a LPN

hello all! i just finished first semester at lcc. i started in spring of 07, btu was accepted for fall 06. when i was accepted i had 75 points. i had everything accept a associates degree. i had a 3.9 gpa with experience and residency requirements and the chse 100 class. advice for anyone starting full time first semester at lcc:

you'll have so much fun and learn more than you ever thought! i did really well, but it takes up alot of time! you'll live be the calendar they give you, it's very helpful. they offer workshop type classes on thursdays (your only day off)- take them all! they are super helpful for first semester "newbies". also, an si and study groups are available at lcc- make use of them. i think this program is awesome. i don't know what you've heard, but believe me, they do everything possible to help you get integrated into this program and to do well. it was hard work, but they make it as easy a transistion as possible. if you really love nursing and want to be a nurse, after first semester, you will love it more than ever! i can't wait for school to start again. i work as an aide in ltc and i miss the hospital "cool" stuff. it's so hard to get an aide job in a hospital, even as a nursing student. hope my info. helped.

hi I'm still in the prereq for the program. I'd like to hear about your experiences. I currently work at Sparrow as a PCT. How many times did you have to apply to get into the program? I'm curious to the process.

I applied one time and was accepted. I start Jan 08. I did apply one time prior but never finished Math 112 so technically I wasn't eligible. I feel confidant with the requirements and gaining the most points possible (most students who have been accepted should.) So if you ever want some advice just pm me. Are you applying for 2008/2009?
