Any Johns Hopkins (JHU) BSN/MSN 2008 applicants?

Published

Yes, we're a few months away from applications for the Accelerated BSN track, but I thought I'd see if anyone else was applying for the BSN/MSN (or just BSN portion) at Johns Hopkins, 2008? JHU is my first choice, but I'm also applying to Columbia, Mount St. Marys College (Los Angeles, BSN only) and Oregon Health & Science University.

I'm nervous as I haven't visited the school yet although the Admissions Officers have been very helpful, answering all of my endless questions via email and phone. I'm taking the GRE in October and I have one shot to get it done and get my scores sent off by the Accelerated track early decision deadline, November 1st. I've spoken to some JHU Nursing Alums via allnurses as well and they've been super helpful with my questions as well (thanks!).

How would I pay for it...? Who really knows...

Hi,

1. I am taking these classes at community colleges, do you think this will matter? I took stats and physio at Rochester and Pathophys at Harvard extension school but thats it.

2. GRE....Freakin out!! I hate the verbal portion of it. I just dont even want to look at it. I am confident that my math will pan out well but the verbal ahh. I initially was signed up to take it 10/17 but now am wondering if I should take it sooner so I can apply to UPenn.....

Any thoughts? How long do people study for the GRE for? I have only studied a couple days and the math portion has already gone up 250 pts, probably bc I had to refresh my memory. I'm hoping to break 700 there. But the verbal....god...I feel like it will be a shoot in the dark.

What does everyone think? When are others taking it...and how are they preparing for it?

I wouldn't worry about the CC courses, many applicants who already have graduated with their BA/BS (like me, for instance) have had to return to school to complete many of the pre-reqs. I've done 80% of them at CCs and state schools here in California. Just make sure to do well in your pre-reqs, basically!

I'm taking the GRE in early October and have been using the Princeton Review and Kaplan study guides, and taking one practice test per week to prepare. I would make sure you've taken at least one timed practice test (on the computer, not on paper), to make sure you are aware of the test format and if you are working at an appropriate pace. Again, JHU only requires a 500 in verbal and quant., each. With your strong 3.6 GPA, I don't think you need to supplement it at all with extremely high GRE scores.

In terms of scoring, I'm not sure what the deadline is for UPenn, but make sure you give ETS enough time to get your Analytical score to the admissions office. I believe they say 10 business days to transmit them (?), but it would be safer to check their website or phone them.

I began studying for it in August, I gave myself two months. I'm just hoping for 600-650 on each section and an AW score of 5.

Good luck, glad you found the thread! ;)

where did you go to school? how do you know that you want to apply to JHU so much so that you are goingn early decision? Do you know what perfect of their matriculating students are early decision? I'm so worried about debt so I feel like I should "shop around" if you will by applying to a few schools.

Do you have AIM or gmail? Love to chat more!!

Katie,

I just sent you a private message with contact information.

Hi there,

Just stoppping by to say I am also applying to JHU BSN program too... I'm busy writing all those essays!

Welcome! I would really love to go to JHU -- I'm applying to their regular BSN, and then if I don't get in I'll be ready to apply to the Accelerated BSN. I haven't even looked at their essays yet, as I'm busy working on Yale's and USD's. So much to do!

Good luck everyone!

Welcome to our burgeoning group, spygirl! I think the JHU essays have honestly challenged me the most, they definitely made me dig deep to think of the most applicable and interesting life situations.

Good luck to you, are you planning on attending the west coast reception in late September or the Open House in Baltimore in October?

Kens,

With the amount of programs you're applying to I can't imagine you wouldn't get in two at least 2 or 3 programs on your first try! Don't even start talking about a second round of applications yet! :lol2:

Thanks Ash, you are so encouraging! I guess I'm just trying to be realistic so I don't get my heart broken! But I am trying to stay positive. :) Where is the west coast reception btw?

Its being held at the Claremont Resort & Spa. I'm missing one of my classes that night to come up and stay the night, then taking the super early flight back home the next day as to not miss work. I think you should reconsider and ditch your class if it won't hurt your grade ;)

I'm really looking forward to meeting alumni to get the real dish on the programs...pros and cons!

Ahh, that's right! I sooo wish I could, but I have a lab practicum that night, so unfortunately I can't miss it. Such a shame! Let me know how it goes!
