Any Jan 2010 UIC GEP Applicants Out There?

Published

Hi all!

I'm new to the allnurses.com site and am so impressed at the wealth of information available on here. Kudos to everyone who participates and posts- sharing your knowledge is so valuable, especially to newbies like me! So, I wanted to start a roll call for Jan 2010 UIC GEP applicants on here.

Yes, it may be a little early considering applications aren't due until March 2009, but I'm super excited (and terrified). I'd love the opportunity to commiserate with some fellow students over the intimidating application process. I just started studying for the GRE and am feeling like I need to go back to the second grade to re-learn basic math!! Did anyone else have this same experience?

I'm 26, work full time in a completely non-health care field, graduated with a degree in Philosophy and pre-med emphasis (don't worry, I came to my senses right out of college and decided med school is not the most effective way (for me) to make a difference!). Most of my pre-reqs are done, except for A&P II and the Research Methods course. I'm having trouble getting letters of reccommendation, shadowing a NP, and studying the GRE (test anxiety...yuck!). Hope to hear from you guys!

rnewhouse1, I feel your pain, as I'm in a similar situation for OHSU - though their program doesn't start until June 12th, so I have a little longer to find housing and everything if I don't get into UIC. And my husband continues to look for jobs in Portland. I'm not looking forward to the possibility of living across the country from my husband, though I do think OHSU is the best program for me. UIC appeals to me as well, and of course we're already established here. We'll see if I get in. Hopefully we'll hear soon!

GOOD LUCK TO EVERYONE! Take some deep breaths . . . I guess I should be telling myself that!

Has anyone heard yet? I applied for Midwifery and haven't heard anything since the interview...getting very anxious.

Nope! I applied for Midwifery as well ... nothing yet:) Let us all know if you hear anything!

Likewise. Also, does anyone know if we'll be notified by email or postal mail? I'd been assuming email, but realized that I didn't actually ask about that at my interview. Thanks!

I was told last week that it would be by email, with a formal letter coming later in the mail.

I think that's right - at my interview, they said that Chris Ocampo would email us.

I can not tell you all how helpful this website has been. I too am waiting very anxiously to hear back from UIC - FNP program. My take is that we MIGHT hear back this week or early May? Just wondering if anyone has heard from the GEP-FNP program???

Chris Ocampo sent out an email this morning that says:

"Good morning everyone,

The final decisions for the GEP program will be made soon. All interviews are completed and are under final graduate committee review. I will notify you through email as soon as I have the decisions from the committee. My goal is to have the committee vote on them by the end of the week.

Thank you. As always, you can email me with any questions.

-Chris"

I hope that means we will hear something next week! I too am anxiously waiting - good luck everyone!!

Thanks Judr for the info. Do you know if he sent that email to everyone? I didn't receive any email from Chris today so now I'm a little worried.

You know, I assumed that he sent the email to everyone, but since you didn't get one maybe he just sent it to the GEP candidates applying to the BHS deparmtent (adult/geriatric/acute care). I think he did a BCC to all the recipients of the email so I can't tell how many people he sent it to. For those out there who did receive the email, can you tell kanturk what specialty you applied to?

FYI, I applied and interviewed with the Midwifery department and didn't get the email from Chris either. Hope that helps!
