Any Jan 2010 UIC GEP Applicants Out There?

Nursing Students Post Graduate

Published

Hi all!

I'm new to the allnurses.com site and am so impressed at the wealth of information available on here. Kudos to everyone who participates and posts- sharing your knowledge is so valuable, especially to newbies like me! So, I wanted to start a roll call for Jan 2010 UIC GEP applicants on here.

Yes, it may be a little early considering applications aren't due until March 2009, but I'm super excited (and terrified). I'd love the opportunity to commiserate with some fellow students over the intimidating application process. I just started studying for the GRE and am feeling like I need to go back to the second grade to re-learn basic math!! Did anyone else have this same experience?

I'm 26, work full time in a completely non-health care field, graduated with a degree in Philosophy and pre-med emphasis (don't worry, I came to my senses right out of college and decided med school is not the most effective way (for me) to make a difference!). Most of my pre-reqs are done, except for A&P II and the Research Methods course. I'm having trouble getting letters of reccommendation, shadowing a NP, and studying the GRE (test anxiety...yuck!). Hope to hear from you guys!

Oh, okay. I feel better now...You guys are awesome! Thanks so much for sharing.

No problem! We are all in this together at this point! :-)

FYI- I applied to the FNP program and I also did not get an email from Chris. Wish everyone the best!!! Hopefully we will hear news sooner than later.

i got one today too. i applied to acnp...

I wonder why they are only sending decisions to BHS . . . I applied to midwifery and did not receive one either. Thanks to whoever posted they got them keeping the rest of us in the loop!

I was denied for admission:(

Oh no! rnewhouse1, I'm so sorry!! Did Chris Ocampo email you today? I know it won't make you feel totally better, but just remember that you applied to one of the most competitive specialities in a very competitive program. Again, I'm really, really sorry and thanks for posting the news so the rest of us have a heads up that decisions should be coming soon.

He emailed me around 6pm. So I am sure everyone else will find out tomorrow. Thankfully I was accepted to my second choice:) Good luck to everyone!!!

rnewhouse1, You're going to Marquette, right? It's a great school and Milwaukee is not too far away!!

I am going to Marquette. It's not that far. I am so happy to be going there. I was just pretty disenchanted from my whole UIC experience. They obviously were not supportive of my career goals when I interviewed, and Marquette is . . . .So personally, it will be a better atmosphere for me to grow my skills. Thanks for the encouragement:)

Specializes in Nurse-midwifery.

I was accepted! I got an email from Chris Ocampo at 7pm. I don't yet if I'll be going to UIC or OHSU (in Portland).

rnewhouse1, I'm really sorry to hear that you didn't get in. I hope your Marquette experience is excellent. I've heard good things about their program.

Congrats aspiring.midwife!

Was it only the midwifery specialty that heard about final decisions today? Did anyone else who applied to a specialty other than midwifery receive an email decision from Chris Ocampo?
