Hi,
I will be starting school in January and was wondering if anyone had any ideas on affordable health insurance for a family of 4? I carry my health insurance right now through my job, and obviously that will be gone once school starts.
Thanks

Hi of course blue cross is going to be the best, but not really affordable. Most schools will have some sort of coverage that they offer for you atleast. I went with Humana. My friend who is an agent at blue cross suggested them....she said yea you may be able to find a cheaper policy, but you don't want to have problems if something happens and you need to use it. Humana gives instant quotes online so that was nice too.

I had a good one with Blue Cross, but they keep raising the premium....:angryfire

Hey Texas! Glad to see you posting. I was wondering how the insurance is through school? I really only need it for myself since my husband is covered with the VA. Is it reasonable coverage, and does it come out of your account with the school or is it paid separately? Anything you might have to offer will be greatly appreciated.
Wish i could help but i don't have the school insurance. Better call the office. I am sure they know the down and dirty. I haven't heard any complaints, but they would probably hear more about that than me anyway. Good luck
Ok, thanks!

I am starting crna school in the fall and will be getting the student health plan. I am ure that most schools offer it and if so is probably your cheapest and best bet. It costs $1000 for the entire year Aug-July t my school. When I need to go to the dr I can go to the student health center or see a doctor on the lists of providers given. It is also good because it covers all preexisting conditions. And yes this also covers er and hospital stays if needed. For me it is great being young a healthy.

Girl I would def. get insurance. I was real lucky this past block that I had insurance. Appendix flared up and had a lap appy 2 months ago and your place of employment that more or less over prices the care they give. Total cost $22,000. Had I not been insured St. Pukes would have given it to me up the A$$. Good luck though. Havent seen the man to ask him bout that thing but should see him next week so ill ask and put in that word.

If you're on the west coast give Kaiser a look. I just priced it at just under $550/month for a family...me, wife, & 2 kids. Quite the bargain compared to Blue Cross which would run double that.

I do not know how you folks in California survive. Everything seems so expensive and unioned to the hilt.
BCBS of Texas has plans ranging from 118/mo to 678/mo for family+dental, depending of course on your choice of deductibles, co-pays, etc...
United HC is approximately the same.
I'm still in search of a good, reasonable plan. Where I am, Kaiser is over $1000 per month for a family of 4!! So, anything less than that is reasonable. Florida doesn't have Kaiser, so I'm not sure who we will be using.
