Any expectant mothers in school?

Nursing Students LPN/LVN Students

I am planning on starting LPN school at a local community college in the summer of this year. I had a miscarriage in the fall and have really been wanting to try to conceive again. I really feel like I need to finish school though, it's just one year right? I am still curious if anyone has been pregnant in nursing school and what it was like, if anyone wants to share! Thanks!

My brother's wife is in nursing school right now with one more year left (she did for 4 program so she will have her BSN when she's done) and she is pregant with their second kid and she's in nursing school. She got pregnant with the first one about a year into nursing school, so she's got it pretty rough right now chasing around a one year old and being 5 months pregnant. She tells me it's pretty tough to do it all, thats why i'm waiting till schools over before I even think of having kids (and i'm only 22, wanna wait a while :) ).

Well I'm not going to get pregnant in nursing school, but I am getting married though, right smack in the middle of medsurg. The good thing is that I'll be on spring break, so hopefully that'll help. But I'm not going to lie planning the wedding does take up a little extra time from studying. So we'll see how it goes.

I'm in an associate's program. I am about 6 months pregnant with my second child. My first one is 15 months old. What helps me is that I am taking classes in the evening, am not working, and only have one class per semester. I figure it would be easier to carry a preganacy now since all I have to do is go to class and attend clinicals once a week for 5 hours. If I'd wait until I get a nursing job then I would be on my feet for at least 8 hours a day five days a week. So far, so good. I hear it can be done, it's just a little more work. Best of luck to ya.

At our school , (1 year LPN school,) we were advised against getting pregnant. They only allow so much time that can be missed. Class time and clinicals are very important. I know the class before us had a lady that was pregnant. She fell behind and didn't pass with her class.

We have someone in our class who will be giving birth right around graduation.

she is doing it

Ive pretty much been pregnant almost my whole program. The other girls that gave birth in our program have dropped out.if i were you I would defintely try to plan the birth after you graduate because I give birth a few months before i graduate and i have other children and i dont know how im going to juggle everything. Good luck with your decsion making.

Thanks girls for all your advice! My husband thinks I should wait, and of course I respect his wishes! I think I am going to wait. I am afraid that if I get pregnant and have to drop out for a while, I may not have the motivation to go back! I really want to be a nurse, but I want to be a mom too. It's only one year and I know it will be worth it! Thanks again!

You are making the right choice to wait. It is great that you can plan for that. Unless the baby is a surprise, then I would never plan to get pregnant while in such an intense program. It can be done I am sure, but at what cost. Stress is very dangerous to the mother and fetus. Pregnancy should be a special time where energy is focused on growing the life inside of you, and minimize all other activities whenever possible. Good luck in the future, you will be happy you became a nurse and Mom.
