I'm not in DC or MD, but I'm just next door in Virginia, doing my studies through Excelsior. :) By the way, if you live in Maryland, I believe you have until 12/31/2007 to finish the EC program; EC won't be accepted in MD after that -- changes were made by the BON in that state as far as EC goes.
Thank you very much for your information. how far along in the program are you, and what part of VA are you from.
I'm working on Nursing Concepts 3 right now, testing next week. I still have NC4-7, Micro, Sociology, and Life Span Developmental Psych to complete (as well as the CPNE, of course). I've completed Information Literacy, A&P, and NC1 and 2.
I'm in Winchester, which is about 75 miles west/northwest of DC.
How are you liking the independant study so far? Have you done any Gan. Ed course yet?
I've discovered that I'm pretty good at self-study, as long as I set concrete deadlines for myself -- like setting actual exam dates.
I don't need a lot of gen. ed courses -- I have two AA degrees already. I can't believe I've never had a sociology course (I've had anthropology, geology, botany, but never soc.!), but that's about the only real gen. ed course that I need. I have all the English, Humanities, etc., already. I'll just also need Micro and Lifespan, which are somewhat nursing-related. :) I've taken psych courses (Intro to Psych, Abnormal Psych), but I guess those don't count.

Hi Lunah- how did you determine that VA accepted EC? I went to the VA BON website and couldn't find any info on it, although I haven't tried calling them. I am in MD, and I wonder if I did it and then worked in VA, if I could at some point get a MD license. I am in Montogomery County, so working in VA is an option. I wouldn't love the commute, but would possibly do it if I could eventually get a MD license.
Yes Va does except EC grads for exam and endorsement. I was thinking the same thing. But I am moving into Servern, MD few minutes from Baltimore and I know that that is a terrible commute. My church has just gotten another location in GA so if push comes to shove I will move to GA. You can go on to exclesior's web site and they tell you a list of states that don't reconize there grads.

You cannot become a Dr. through EC. You can get an RN license if you are already an LPN or EMS. However, Md does not recognize it, if you do not already have an RN license. If you think there is any possiblity of working in Md, then you need to go to a regular college and do there LPN-RN course. Most of the community colleges have them.
the MD I am refering to means Maryland not Medical Doctor
In which case, no a Va license will not get you to a Md license if you take the nclex-RN via EC. It seems stupid, but that is how I understand the new rules.
Yes I know I have called the board and spoke with both a examination and endorsement specialist. They both said that Anyone who graduate EC after the cut-off date can not work in MD. That is crazy because either you are a part of the compact state or not. I even went as far as to ask them so if I graduate EC in 2008 and work in another state say 2 years as a competant nurse I still can't endorse int MD, she said no so noncalantly
