Any College of Dupage nursing students out there? Or hopefuls?

Published

I have been trying to find other COD nursing student hopefuls or current students anyone out there?

Hi, I am currently a student at COD and I applied for Fall 2011 Nursing Program. I have all my prereq's done except for Math 1102. I took the PAX a few weeks ago and I barely passed. The PAX RN is ridiculous!! It should be geared towards our pre req's required for the Nursing program which my GPA is 3.6. The questions in the science section was all Physics and some random questions. Basically you either know it or you don't....more an IQ test and how fast you can read and answer correctly in each section... I studied night and day for 6 weeks out of numerous entrance exam books. I am a mother of three and have sacrificed and my family has sacrificed so much during the past 2 years while I worked on knocking my pre req's out. I only have a 2 year window period where I can go to school and not work...which puts such a weight on my shoulders. I panicked during the test and it spiraled..when I realized that the 1000's of notecards I made to study for this test was useless. I really hope that I get excepted into the program. Does anyone know how competitive it is this year? When I went to advising session in October they said this is the year to apply. I really hope enrollment is down. Does anyone have any information? I have heard that if your PAX score is not high you have no chance of getting in. Do you know if they actually follow the point system? I'd almost rather jump off a bridge then have to take the PAX RN again..LOL

Not COD, but Moraine....close =)

Thanks for replying. I was beginning to think that there were no COD students out there.

Ill tell you from what I know. The other day I called Deb to see how many points I had for my app. And the feeling I got was that they are giving us points for each of the categories but that on her side they dont know how many points its really out of or how they will use it to choose the 117. So my thinking is that they use the score sheets to kinda weed out the people that dont have what they need to go onto be looked at and then from there they will choose their range to pick their applicants.

From the points it seems like the PAX doesnt weigh more than the other categories but at this point no one really knows. The points system is new for them too. From I know last years candidates got chosen solely on their pax score. The lowest was 115.

I retook the pax and scored higher. It sucked but hopefully it was worth it! I have all my classes done. I just need to complete the CNA. I didnt want to pay for it if I wasnt going to get in. I too have children and have sacrificied. SO I am hoping it will pay off this year!!

2 more days until the deadline. I am freaking out. Last year I believe that the deadline was pushed to Feb 1 because of the snow storm and they got their letters around Valentine's Day. I am hoping for the same luck!!!!

Keep me posted on your status if you hear anything and especially when you get in.

Hi, thanks for replying. The score of 115...is that the composite score or composite percentile? Cod adjusted their PAX requirements in January. You used to have to score 50% on all subjects and composite of 67%. Know you have to have a composite percentile score minimum 50%. I am hoping since they lowered the PAX requirement that my composite score of 103 will be ok. I think it's going to boil down to how many applicants they have. Since they lowered the PAX requirement I am hoping that enrollment is LOW..fingers crossed. I am trying to remain positive. If I do not make it I will just go onto taking my bachelor pre req's and take the PAX again. Definetely keep in touch. Good Luck!

When did they change the score? Is it in the new packet? I didn't see that. 115 is the composite score. I got a 121 the second time around. Have you calculated your points?

They changed the pax rules around December. If you look at the packet, on the pax information page at the bottom in red it shows the new requirement. If they lowered it, then it leads me to believe applications are not high. I do not know why else they would lower it?? I know I can do better on the PAX the second time around, but I cannot take it until the summer. I havent figured out my points in all the sections. On the worksheet in the required area how do you figure out your points? I got an A in chem and a B in phys. I do not get any points for PAX because I did not score in 2 test areas greater then 50th...My GPA points are 10 and what counts as your completed courses? I took everything required but Math 1102. I am renewing my CNA, taking the exam on Feb 12. Do I need to let COD know that? Do you get any points for CNA?

I don't think they lowered it because of the applications. It helps everyone out to be lower but they can still pick a higher range to be accepted.

As far as points, the first section you don't get points you just have to have those in order to be considered. The gpa is all classes for the nursing degree. The 8 classes just are the max amount of classes you can get points for. Do you know what I mean? Overall I believe there are 10 classes.

The CNA is not considered but you must have it done to stay in the program. You don't have to tell them. You just have to show up on the IL registry by Oct. 1.

Did u get conirmation on what gen ed classes they include? I don't think they include anat 1 and chem?

Yes they do. That what she said for the gpa. As far gen eds it's all the ones that are on the sheet. So it's how many you complete for up to a total of 8.

Hi there. The OP and I have been having a dialogue for over a month. I think we agree that the classes that "count" are

A&P I

A&P II

chemistry (either contemporary or general)

microbiology

nutrition

English

speech

math

humanities

lifespan psychology

I was thinking since everything is computerized will it make it easier for them to send letters? Last year the snow delayed the deadline. I think this year nothing should affect it. I'm wondering if they could even do it the next day. Since our points are already calculated. I'm going to send an email and see if I can get an answer to see what day they actually review the apps.
