Any ACC students out there?

I am eagerly awaiting my acceptance letter (fingers crossed!) ~ just wanted to see if there were any other Austinites out there - current, future, or former!

Specializes in IMC, ICU, Telemetry.
Is it almost impossible to get A's?

It's more challenging to get A's - one reason is because the grading scale is different - an A is 91-100. An avg of 90.4 is a B. But it is possible - you're looking at living proof. :specs:

Asepoopoo, no I am not in Mobility. I applied last time and must have been close because I got an email before this semester that I could take Nursing Skills 1 this semester. I hope this means I will be accepted for Fall, but I am trying not to get my hopes up just in case I don't.

No kidding?! It seems that would be the case! If they accept 100 and they only let those in the top 100 register for Nursing Skills, then.... but I know how you feel. I have a bad habit of counting my chickens before they hatch. Gets me every time! Wow, you must be excited!! I can't wait to get going. Who are you taking by the way? You'll have to keep in touch and tell me what it's all about. I've heard mixed reviews... on one hand that it's an easy A, and on another that they are super tough and strict with grading. There's such a shroud of mystery that surrounds NS for me. Well, hopefully you'll get in this Fall, and hopefully I'll be there with ya! About a month to find out!!! Yay!!

Hey Texasgirl! Woohoo! I just got the Nursing Skills email too!! Well, I'm happy that I at least get to get started, but I'm not counting on the whole package yet - like they said, it's not a guarantee of admission. But still... it's a start! If I can fit in, I'm gonna have to do Eastview, otherwise I'll have to wait for the summer. Where are you planning on being? Maybe I'll be seeing ya!

Asepoopoo~Congratulations!!! I will be taking it at Eastview starting on the 20th.

HI, I am just about to apply to ACC for LPN. I started at UTSA 3 yrs ago and have almost all my prereqs so hopefully I can get in pretty quick I went ahead and obtained my CNA to see if it helps with the process, but only time will tell, I wish I would have just kept straight on for my RN, but maybe CNA-LPN-RN will work, how hard was it to get accepted and was there a waiting list?

I'm not the one to help you with LPN info, but if you don't mind my asking, why LPN, if it's RN is that you're aiming for? Checking the website, I see that the biggest deifference in the degrees time-wise is the number of required pre-reqs/co-reqs. RN requires 10, where LPN only requires 3 - intro to Anat/Phys, Medical Terminology, and Pharmacology. As far as the uppergraduate Nursing courses go, they do differ between the two degrees, but oddly enough, the RN degree plan has fewer hours than the LPN - 37 for RN, and 44 for LPN. Both degrees are 4 semesters. Now, keep in mind that I have no idea the difficulty of either degree, because I'm still awaiting entrance, but it would seem to me, that if you already have a lot of pre-reqs completed, you may as well go for the gold! Again, I'm not sure about the LPN program, but yes, there is a wait for the RN. Wait time all depends on your grades and how many pre-reqs/co-reqs you have completed. Hope I was some help - good luck in your decision! I've heard great things about the ACC program.

Thank you so much I had an interview with St. Davids today and the DON there told me that I should not even bother with my LVN also, I was in formed that quite a few hospitals are trying to do away with even hiring LVN because there is so much they are unable to do, and it makes the RN's job harder, so now i just need to do some research on what school to attend that will let me in the fastest, I hate to wait you know??!! But thank you very much!

Hello, It seems it's been about a month since anyone replied to this thread but I'd like to get it going again. I've been officially on the waiting list since June 2005 and was told I wouldn't start until January. I also got the email about a month ago informing me I was approved to take the Nursing Skills I class. I am excited to actually start something that has to do with nursing. By the time I start the program it will have been over a year and a half since my phys, pharm and micro. I don't think I will remember any of it by then. I was told by a recent graduate (Dec. 2005) that the first semester is by far the hardest. She seemed to think it was yet another weed-out attempt by ACC and told me to be prepared to get thrown to the wolves.:uhoh21:

I'll be applying next spring... I'll have all my prereq's done by this fall, and all of the non-nursing courses. I really hope the rest of this year goes well! :) Best of luck to you all!

Good luck to you. I found pickaprof.com to be very helpful in deciding whose class to take. It makes all the difference in the world to have good instructors, especially in the science classes.

Has anyone heard about the new HESI requirements that the ACC nursing staff voted on in Dec 2005?
