Hi all. I'm hoping to start my pre-reqs next year, but there's one question that's been nagging me a bit. I confess, after years of myself and other family members getting diagnoses, that were later scraped, etc. I am leery of any labels, but I was given the diagnoses of PTSD last year (along with depression, but that's been very long term and I find it very managable now). I see some merit to mentioning this because I can be very high anxiety (no panic or anxiety attacks though), very jumpy, etc. I'm also very determined though. I can function well under stress, I just wear out physically and emotionally quickly, does that make sense? Obviously, nursing is a high stress job. Do you think someone like me can do it, and thrive? I want to do something that matters, and I'm stubborn, so I don't want to give up on a dream just because I get anxious. But, I also want to be realistic.
Thanks.

I know someone who was recently accepted into a BSN program with very good grades. She sees a psychiatrist and takes her prescribed medications regularly to manage her anxiety. I think if you follow your doctor's orders and follow through with treatment, you should be fine too. :gandalf:
I've opted not to take meds, but this reply helps - I can just be sure to remain in therapy my whole career!:chuckle (Or go when needed :) )

Hi, there is a new thread on this topic. There may be people you can PM to ask for coping skills, techniques or advice. I will send you a PM of the thread as well.
