Another "OMG i can't believe you did that!" family member story

Published

Had a family member come out and talk to me about pt's being in a semiprivate. blah blah blah, generic complaints. roomate is too noisy, too many visitors, talks too loud "maybe they can't hear and have to yell", too many phone calls, blah blah. she actually said to me that last night she snuck and unplugged the roomate's phone so people would stop calling!:uhoh3:

i had to refrain from saying what i really thought.....

i said that is absolutely inappropriate, do not mess with her phone.

she says i had to do something, she's too noisy, blah blah.

i said if you have a problem, come to us. it is inappropriate of you to do that, that is not your right.

she didnt even act the least bit remorseful or shamed, or embarrassed. almost like she really did have the right to do that.

How about the people who drive around blasting their "music", which contains so much profanity and hate language? That should absolutely be against the law.

Ugh! That's one of my biggest pet peeves. I would love to find the person who invented the subwoofer, and force him to sit in a room listening to heavy metal, rap, opera, mariachi and twangy country music for a couple of days at high volume.

I think TV has made people more rude. I'm shocked at how people treat each other. I've noticed that witty comebacks are popular and I think people have come to believe that smark-aleck remarks are okay because they do it on TV.

OK-I've got one...Imagine being the nurse that catches a male visitor sexually molesting a female patient? ....It was a late stage Alzheimer's gal-in a geri chair recliner .....His loved one was in another room when he was caught with both hands up the other gals dress-feeling up her attends I guess.....AND THE KICKER----The" powers that be" at that time DID NOT call the cops! As far as I know they never informed the victim's family. They did make a guideline for the molester to follow when he visits and he does-but when he sees an unfamiliar nurse on the floor he'll try to wander around the unit-still looking for a victim.....PIG.....

Ummm ............Thats just criminal.

I wonder about that too. Are the cost savings of sharing rooms worth the headaches that arise because of incompatibility issues? Seems there are enough issues going on in a hospital without adding roommates to the mix.

I don't know if this has been discussed yet because I haven't read the whole thread yet, but I've wondered, how are semi-private rooms NOT a violation of HIPAA? I was in the hospital last January, and when they were doing the admit process, the lady next to me was sitting on the edge of her bed, listening intently to everything about my hx, dx, etc. Then you have doctors coming in during rounds and discussing your situation in front of the other patient and their family members.

This has bugged me for a while. And I hope that this is not considered a thread hijack. :)
