Another New-grad In Need of Help!

Good morning all!

I have been going over many posts in this board tying to revamp my resume. I have applied to close to 70 openings with no luck. So I've decided to try a new approach. I have 0 hospital experience, I was a server for 6 years, and I was recently transferred to the pharmacy in my current job (my manager hoped it would help my chances of getting a job).

I would love to hear any thoughts on to how to make this better (no matter how harsh) its almost a page without and job history descriptions. Now I am stuck on my cover letter. I know it should be short and sweet, but can you guys suggest pointers for what to include.

There's a lot to expand on.

Include the number of hours for your clinical rotations, and where you completed them.

For your old (and current) jobs, write at least 1-2 lines of things that pertain to nursing. Do you provide customer service? Multi-task? Problem solve? Think outside of counting pills or taking plates to tables, because you know you did MUCH more than that! So how will you make them relevant to nursing? The way you have it now, you sell that experience (and yourself) short, thus others will do the same. Show them why you're a valuable candidate! What makes you stand out?

With those old jobs, list the company and city (unless you already did that and omitted it for our sake).

Are you working to obtain other certifications? It might be good to say, "Actively pursuing ACLS, PALS,..."

For National Society of Collegiate Scholars, are you a member? Is this an award you got? It's not clear.

Why did you get the community leadership award? When? From whom? Was this through school? Work? Again, you're selling yourself short by not telling them why you're this fabulous person who got this amazing award worth posting on your resume.

Google key words that come up on those robot searches. You have so few words here that they won't pick up anything exciting and worth laying human eyes on, if that makes sense.

Thank you for your input! I will take your pointers and work them in to my resume. I had a lot of that before but heard it was unnecessary so I thought I needed to take it out because i was past the one page rule.

Play with your spacing and fonts. That shouldn't be more than one page.

2 page resumes are ok now, according to our career services dept the 1 page is an outdated rule.
