another gpa question

Published

Hi

My name is Kristen, I am new to the site but I am already addicted. I recently graduated with a biology degree but a horrible gpa, I have a 2.4 from one school and a 2.8 from another, i know its bad. I want to get into an accelerated nursing school and I notice that some programs only look at your pre req gpa like texas women....does anyone know of any other school that only look at a pre req gpa??? especially belmont or any schools in nashville? my bad grades are in organic chemistry, physics, and calculus classes which most nursing schools dnt include those as pre reqs so my pre req gpa will be pretty high

Thanks alot

Most nursing schools in California looks strictly at pre-req gpa and use cumulative GPA only when you got tied teas score.

If I were you I would take classes to show that you are capable of going well in an academic setting. Take some courses and try to get a 4.0. If you find out that the acclerated programs won't accept you have you considered taking the prereqs (API, APII, chem, etc) and then applying to a generic program?

Easy way to do this is to simply look up the requirements for programs in your area, as even schools within the same city can vary on their requirements. However that being said, most schools only look at one's pre-nursing courses GPA. Also there are some second degree BSN programs that one only needs to have a BS or BA degree regardless of GPA for entry, but since most states require a minimum GPA of about 2.5 to be awarded a BS/BA degree, it pretty much works out even. What usually matters in this case is one's grades on any previously taken "pre-nursing" courses.
