Anne Arundel Community College: Fall 2011 RN

U.S.A. Maryland

Just curious to see if anyone else out there has applied for the Fall 2011 RN program at AACC? Would also love to hear any information about the program from current and former AACC students...

Thanks!

I did! I am still taking AP2 right now, but without that I have a 3.52 - I got a C in Micro, and a B in Math, but all the rest are A's - I hope that is good enough, I am dying until the first week of June when we find out!

I'm taking A&P 2 and Micro this semester- so hopefully I can keep my GPA up enough to make it in. I've heard everything from 3.2 to 3.7 for the GPA cutoff, so I suppose there's no telling what it will actually be this year. The first week of June seems like forever to wait!

Good luck!

I am a first semester hybrid student and I love it so far. I highly encourage you to do it online if you can. It is self directed but you don't have to go to lectures!

Hello! I also put my application in! I'm in A&P 2 right now and eagerly awaiting June! I think I will cry my self to sleep all summer if I don't get in. I have a 3.5 something as of right now. I think I will try to get into the phlebotomy program if I'm not accepted.

Why not go for the PCT program? I am finishing up PCT I right now and then will go right into PCT II which include Phlebotomy. It's really easy to get in too. You don't have to worry about GPA (mine was 1.58 at AACC when I started and frankly it still is). It's really easy and gets your foot in the door when it comes to work. You are a CNA once you complete PCT I and all you have to do is apply for your license. You take your CNA state test in class and you can also do the GNA after taking PCT I. Just a thought. You also apply for the LPN program there too.

Since you're already in, I hope you don't mind if I ask some questions...

First off, what did you have to do for the health information record stuff, is that an actual form, or do they just want something from your Dr. saying you're mentally and physically up to doing the program? Also, what do you have to buy in terms of equipment and uniforms? I read somewhere on this site that nursing students need a palm pilot and and a software package? Do you have to get your scrubs through the school, or can you buy them wherever? Last but not least, do clinical hours start right away, or does that come later in the program?

Thanks!

I am also in the hybrid program, finishing up the first semester.

To help answer a few of your questions:

1. Once you are admitted into the program them will send you all the required information that you need to fill out for them, including the health forms that you will need. Don't try to geth that stuff done now, because they have to be dated for certain dates in order to be valid- so just wait till they give you the info.

2. You do not need a palm piolot. As long as you have a smart phone you will be able to download the required skyscape program, however to be honest I don't know if they will keep it or not because we did not really use it at all. At least not in the hybrid program. As far as books are concerned- there are a lot and the first semster usually costs right around $1100. Be prepared, it's a big chunk of change! But we are told that there are a lot fewer books to purchase in the coming semesters.

3. You do not need to get your scrubs through the school, you can order any white top and pants that you would like. Before clinicals start they have a re-sale of scrubs through the NSA where they sell tops and pants for $4 from previous students with the patches already on. You get the patches from the booksotre- they are like $2 each.

4.Clinicals do not start right away in the first semster. They start the second 8 weeks of the semester. You have three classes two of which are only 8 weeks long. So when they end you start clinicals.

They will go over all of this stuff in the orientation, but this just gives you a heads up.

I agree with Hill that if you can get in the hybrid program it is the way to go. This semester it was new and so they determined who got into it by GPA, however we have heard that they may do it differently in the comming semesters. It is well worth it if you can do it and if you are a self-learner. I work and I'm a mom so it's the only way I could really do the program- I am so happy it was available! Being the guinea pigs it's a bit more stressfull, but we are trying to work out the kinks for the comming students!

Good luck to you!

Thanks for all the information, you've been incredibly helpful. I'm sure I'll have more questions for you as we get closer. Thanks again!

That was really helpful!

Kate, How did your semester go? I finished AP2 with an A, so I have a 3.62 so I am fingers (and toes, and eyes, arms ya know whatever else I can cross) crossed so I hope we get it!! I cannot hardly wait another 2 weeks - they said by the first week in June, but all grades are in by now, so they REALLY should know by now :)

GOOD LUCK EVERYONE!

The semester went really well- I managed to get an A in Micro and A&P 2, so I think I should be good to go as far as the GPA cutoff goes. I'm really anxious to find out for sure though, I keep thinking, "what if I forgot something?" Wouldn't it be great if they sent out the letters early for once? (A girl can dream, right?)

Anyhoo, best of luck to you and hopefully we'll see each other at orientation!

Hello everybody, I am new to this site but I am also a fall 2011 hopeful at AACC... Good luck everybody! =) let me know how things turn out!
