Anne Arundel Community College: Fall 2011 RN

Published

Just curious to see if anyone else out there has applied for the Fall 2011 RN program at AACC? Would also love to hear any information about the program from current and former AACC students...

Thanks!

I just got mine! I'm in! I'm in! Soooooo happy!!!

*dances around in circles while squealing obnoxiously*

OMG I am SOO excited for YOU!!! :nurse: Congratulations x's 1,000,000!!

Now I am even more anxious - thanks a lot :)

AGAIN - SO Happy for you!!

I GOT MINE TOOOOO! I'M IN - I would be sqealing like a 2 year old also, BUT I can't stop crying!!!

I'm in too!!! this is almost the best day of my life, after the birth of my son of course! YAY!!!! see you girls in orientation... and don't worry for those of you who didn't get a letter yet.. they said they sent only a batch out yesterday and they will be going out until Friday! ;)

Hopeful NO MORE ;). Congrats!! BTW What is your real name? I already registered for my background check and am doing the Dr tomorrow. And u am registered at work (a hospital) to do my CPR on July 12th. So I want to get it out of the way so I don't screw anything up!!

Again congratulations!!

My name is Jessica Stephens. What's yours? Maybe we have had classes together... Yes I am getting on top of things too. Dr's appt. for immunizations on June 7th, CPR on July 9th, and already submitted background check!! YAY!!!! it all seems so real now, and I am really stoked to finally be here! I cannot wait until classes (actually I probably shouldn't say that, because when they get here I will wish I never did ;) ) But, I am so happy for us all! This is one of my greatest accomplishments, if I feel this happy now imagine how we will feel at graduation! AHHHHH! I am looking forward to orientation :)

I got my acceptance too last June 1st! I'm so excited about it! Hoping someone can give advices from former students. Thank God!

If you ever have any questions, you can contact me at [email protected] . I would be most knowledgeable about the hybrid program, but since we take all the same tests as the "face-to-face" students then content questions are fine too.

Best of luck to you all! Brush up on your fluid/electrolyte imbalances. Like when sodium, potassium, water levels (etc) are too high or too low. We are going into Med Surg I next semester and that information (same with first sememster) is vital!

Best of luck to you all!

Kristen

Thanks Kristen - Where again did you say your clinicals were first semester, and if you don't mind could you give me a rundown of the schedule that you had? Thanks :)

I don't have my schedule anymore, but it really is one of those things where it is different every week! For both on ground classes and hybrid.

This is for the hybrid only:

Week 2-10 were pretty normal with two evening classes (labs) a week, usually Tue/Wed nights if I remember correctly.

Starting week 11 (i think, ugh --isnt that terrible, I just finished that semester too!) you being clinical "weekends", for 8 of us it was Fri and Saturday daytime 7-2p and the other 8 is was Saturday and Sunday 7a-2p. However you no longer have labs in the evenings.

The last few weeks you have a project to complete and present before your clinical group about a patient you had.

My clinicals were awesome at Balt Wash Med Center, in Glen Burnie. I live in Pasadena, so it was super close. Some went to NorthWestern? Hospital, north of the beltway -- pretty far away from AACC like 45mins? Ugh -- again, was thrilled about my clinical group and setting.

Any questions you can email me and I can give you my phone number.

Facebook is another great way to meet other AACC current and 1st semester students. Search AACC Nursing.

Best of luck to you!

Kristen

So Kristen, a few more questions for you if you're up for it, (since you've been such a terrific resource for us newbies)... I hear this program is really intense. Since you're in the thick of it, I wonder if you can give me a basic rundown of what the workload is like. Just a general day-in-the-life, kind of thing?

Also, are the clinicals mostly observational at first and then a little more hands on as the program progresses? Or should be be prepared to jump in both feet first from day one?

Sorry to keep grilling you with question after question like this, I'm just anxious and excited to get started, and every little tidbit of info helps!

Thanks again,

Kate

I am even more excited for orientation now! I was Thinking we can meet up at 8-8.15ish outside or even right inside? Then we can put faces to names? Let me know what you think?
