I am a seniro BSN student and a few students and I are doing a research project on what aneseptic technique best prevents infection prior to IV cannulation. We have found, suporting several other studies, that chlorahexidine gluconate with a combination of alcohol works the best. Our problem si that a few of the hospitals that we have worked at do not currently use a solution of this type when cannulating IV catheters. What does the faciltiy you work with use?

We use the chloraprep (without alcohol), and scrub for thirty sec for IV starts.
