4th grader in my clinic after recess C/O dyspnea, had had bronchitis and was allowed to play outside at recess today. Lungs CTA, O2 sat 99%, HR 143. Had him sit down with me resting and trying to calm down, asked about medications and if he was still on medication for bronchitis. Only on meds for ADHD. Rechecked HR and after rest it's 150! Called Mom who casually responds it's just his medicine. I told her it could be but that he really needed to see his physician and that someone should come to pick him up to which she responds, I can't really get him right now Told her it was not safe for him to stay at school with the sx her was experiencing and that if need be, I would call 911. I sat with him until his Aunt picked him and by that time, his HR was calming and his shortness of breath was subsiding... Is it summer vacation yet :)

I am so very ready for Thanksgiving break. Most days I find that I am at my wits end!

Sometimes the ADHD meds need to be adjusted. I has a student with a HR in the 160's and had tongue curling. It was related to the meds he was on. I did the same thing with his parent. Either you come get him or I'm calling 911.
This little guy has had trouble before with his meds and at one point he wasn't allowed to take them at all. He recently started this medication so hopefully they will get him adjusted soon. he had a doctor's appt today so I haven't seen him.

We just finished Fall Break! We start school a week earlier but get a whole week off every fall!!! It's wonderfu-you can go on vacation and have Disneyland and resorts to yourself. Now there are just 4 more weeks til Thanksgiving break, then there's Christmas break....and then Spring Break--and of course a few holidays sprinkled in!:yeah:
That would be nice. When do you start school? We started on August 17 this year.

The only ones who think school nursing isn't stressful would be those who have never actually been a school nurse. Today, right in the middle of our H&V screens, *both* my diabetic kids showed up--one at 43, the other over 350. Needless to say, H&Vs came to a screeching halt while I put out those fires. Some days are very slow and easy. Other days, there are just not enough hours to get everything done. And of course, there's the parents...
We start Aug 4th and are out May 15.
Nice! We get out May 28!
