ANCC gerontology exam

Has anyone sat for the certification exam in gerontological nursing? If so, how did you prepare for it, and over what period of time? Do you recommend a particular review course or study guide?

I can't find any info on the ANCC website regarding how this exam is scored. Do you need to answer a certain percentage of questions correctly to pass, or is it simply more right than wrong?

Thanks for your help.

I took the exam in October and passed. It was a pass/fail scoring system. All computerized, I had 4 hours to take the exam and finished in 2 1/2. I downloaded the study guide from ANCC when I applied. I do believe you have to answer so many questions correctly in order to pass. The study guide and materials you receive when you apply for the exam will give you all that information. I first took the practice test at the end of the study guide to see where my weaknesses were. Then I went through the study guide and concentrated on those areas. I skipped over the sections I was confident about. I did a little studying every night over the 2 months before the exam-no more than half hour at a time. It was well worth it.

I wish there were something similar for LPNs, I would gladly study for, pay for and take that course!

Any advantages taking this exam? I'm considering it.

Walkington, LPN,

If you are a member of the NFLPN, you can take this exam there as an LPN. I believe they have an IV Certification for LPN's as well on this site. I didnt look for the IV as I graduated IV certified in my LPN program. I am going to be hopefully taking the GC exam soon.
