Anatomy?

Published

Hey I'm a prenursing student and I have a question. In nursing school/program will you be going over anatomy? I'm taking A&P now but I was just wondering if you guys go skeletons and muscles again.

If I wanted to have a better understanding of anatomy would I have to study on my own time?

Hello RedEyeBrat:

Yes, you will be taking A&P and a big affirmative to the bones and muscles question

As for your having a better understanding, if you are taking A&P now then hang on to those notes!

as you learn about the different medical diseases in nursing classes the instructors generally do a quick review of the anatomy or physiology that applies. so, when you get to the bone or muscle diseases you would most likely get a general review of what was needed to be known in order to understand the diseases. diseases are where the normal anatomy and physiology has gone kaput. see my critical thinking flow sheet for nursing students for help you later in nursing class studies.

I actually feel like I am retaining more of anatomy & physiology in nursing school than I did in my actual A&P class. I dont know if its just because hearing the A&P now is review, and its further cementing it into my brain, or if its because learning about A&P with the different diseases actually makes me say "OHHH i get it"... Hang on to your notes though, I've gone back to them a few times. But I am certainly thankful that we do review it in NS... That was one of my fears before I started also. ;)

There generally is a little quick review of A&P in my classes, especially for my health assessment class where A&P 1 is a pre-requesite for it, but it's not nearly in depth as an A&P class would be. I would hang onto your books/notes!!!

We didn't go over A&P again in nursing school..that'd be WAY too much time!

I'm taking AP right now concurrent with Med Surg1, and I am learning the same material in both classes. I did a clinical report on a patient with Alzeimers, and two hours after I wrote my report, we were reviewing for an AP test and one of the questions was "what are the symptoms of Alzeimers". (I responded with the symptoms that were not in the AP book...that really threw them for a loop, lol) We learn about the ulna and the radius in AP and I realize just two weeks prior we had learned ulnar flexion and radial flexion (bending the wrist towards the ulna or radius) in Fundamentals.

AP is gold, and I wish I had taken it ahead of time so that it was more concrete in my mind before nursing classes started.

Please pay attention in ur A&P class.. Cause it will come back to haunt you and then you have to play catch up!! Over winter break take time to review things you don't understand this will make it easier for you in patho!

Patho is like A&P but it talks more on the disease process rather than the structure!
