Has anyone had to take Anatomy/Physiology and Microbiology? Just wondering how these courses work with the labs.
Feeling a little out of my comfort zone over the thought of having to take these two classes.
Any feedback would be GREATLY appreciated!! Thanks!

I did not have to take these courses through WGU since I transferred the A&P credits from a local community college, and the micro credits came from a trade school.
However, I do know that the A&P course through WGU involves dissection of a fetal pig that comes with the lab kit.

WGU does not offer science courses to pre-licensing students. You have to take them else where or through straighterline.com who they have a contract with to accept their credits. They have to be completed prior to applying.
Those were the courses I had to complete. I have to redo my A&P 2 then I am done with my course. I have a Bachelor so my general Ed is complete.
I think they do offer it for the RN to BSN program. I don't know if it's by the school or through straighterline.
The science courses must be accompanied with labs. Local community college will transfer fine.
My in class A&P involved dissecting a pig. All A&P lab course involves dissection whether it is a pig or cat or frog or whatever.
For nursing school those science courses are required. So all nursing student have to take them to be accepted into the program for licensing.
Sorry villageRN. I assume you are a nurse already? Are you doing the RN to BSN?
Hi ShonaJ,
I am an RN and a lot of my classes transferred but I do need to do A&P and Micro. I'm going to be in the RN to MSN program and anxious to get started. I've heard a lot of great things about WGU's nursing programs from both current and former students but I'm a little apprehensive about having to do A&P and Micro. Hoping to get some feedback from people who've had to do them through WGU. How do you like the program?
Oh ok cool. I am looking into the pre-licensing portion. I wish I was like you and already had my RN. Would be so much easier.
I have been seeing the threads of students talking about the science classes. I also asks my enrollment counselor too. That's how I learned about what classes they offer.
If they offer the classes and they are done through straighterline, I tried to do A&P and Micro but I was so busy I could not focus with an online. If you are good with online then you would be fine. They have the lecture and the lab. You will conduct your lab assignments at home, you will get a fetal pig to dissect, a cow eye and sheep heart along with the other lab assignments. It's not bad if you can handle online.
I would check with the enrollment counselor for that program and see where and how they offer it. I heard the school only offered the course within the program for RN to BSN on in your case MSN.
When I got my bachelor it was from another school for a non nursing field. I am able to use it to cover my general education.

I did them in the RN to BSN program. I didn't have to do anatomy, but I did do Physiology and Micro. Micro was easy peasy (the test) - I have never heard anyone complain about it here or on facebook. The lab is a bit tedious, but there's an '11 day game plan' which can be shortened to about a week. It's pretty much growing cultures and reporting on them.
Physiology is an online lab thing that you do which requires writing up small reports - I did it over a weekend, not bad. The lab, however, is kind of a pain. Took me roughly a week, make sure you have a partner so you can get the dissection stuff done quickly. They send you all the stuff you need and the anatomy kit comes with a cool plastic skelly - great for halloween parties!
ETA: If you are going into WGU just do them there, don't spend the money on straighterline. Both classes can be done quickly and all the lab stuff is included in tuition!
That's RN to BSN or RN to MSN only. You can not take them through WGU for Pre-licensing.
Wish we could. I would retake my A&P 2.
Thanks, FeatherzRN! Very helpful info! I looked at my eval again and don't have to do the Anatomy, just the Physiology with lab and the micro. I feel better about having to take them after reading your response!
