has anyone completed a&p ii before a&p i? where i am going, the class description states that a&pi is a recommended pre req..not a required pre req...i want to take a&pii because it is the only pre req that has seats available for the summer session. i only have the science classes to complete for pre reqs (i have a ba). ideally, i would like to get them all out of this way by the end of this upcoming fall semester so i can apply to the nursing program next fall...also, has anyone completed a&p i & ii simultaneously?

The only thing you may run into is if there is a pre-req of Bio201 to be able to enroll in Bio 202. There is in all of the schools I have checked into.
Similarly the Nursing school I am applying to does not require Chemistry but they do require Bio 205... Bio 205 requires Chemistry. So I gotta take that too. You may run into a similar situation.

You also may compromise your grade.

There's a reason there's I and II: one follows the other.

i agree; it may be very difficult to get a good grade and, more importantly, get a good working grasp of the material, by taking them out of order. i'm a little surprised that a & p i is not a required pre-req at your school. my school is not on a semester system (we have quarters, a.k.a. terms), so we have a &p i, ii, and iii. each focuses on different body systems and you need the info from the preceding course to be successful in the subsequent classes. you have to complete them in order at my school; no "skipping around."

To add to my post:
Another reason you should be taking I is to understand II that much easier. There's no use in memorizing something, you need to also UNDERSTAND the material, as anatomy and physiology is very important to nursing.
Taking II before I was just a thought..not something I was seriously contemplating doing. I am well aware of the negative ramifications that could occur as result of taking anatomy I & II out of order. I have discussed the importance of grades with the nursing advisors from a few different schools and they all stress that it is imperative to get excellent grades (A's) in the pre req science courses. I remember friends taking it out of order or simultaneously when I was an undergrad..the grades they received? I am not sure..So, I was curious to see what results others who may have done this had. I am keeping my schedule the way it was..anatomy I first..

I thought 1 and 2 were completely different, I don't think I would have had problem taking 2 before 1. I did think 2 was harder than 1 because I felt it was more abstract, but I don't think there was that much building from one to the other...just my opinion.
Most schools will say the pre requisite for II is I.

I took a & p 2 last semester, and am taking a & p 1 right now. I didn't have a problem, I just had to read a couple extra chapters to learn the anatomical regions and planes. I got an A in a & p 2, and am holding an A in 1, so it can definitely be done!
If it isn't a requirement at your school and you think you can handle it, then go for it. Many years ago I took Biology 2 before 1 because 2 was the only one offered in the spring semester. I had to get it approved and they basically said that I could do it, but don't complain to them if I don't do well. Sometimes you just have to work a little harder, but personally, I'll take working a little harder and getting done sooner as long as it doesn't compromise my grades. So, if you think you can handle it, do it! :) Good Luck!

AP I and AP II were entirely different when I took them. I had exceedingly solid high As in both and I used absolutely nothing I learned from AP I in AP II. They were entirely different systems. If your program is like that, then it shouldn't be a problem.
Everyone was always griping about how hard these classes were and how you should take them in the semester immediately following so you wouldn't forget anything. I took AP I in summer 2006 and didn't do AP II till summer 2007 and had no problems whatsoever. If you're willing to put in the work and aren't one of those people who like to complain about how hard everything is you should be fine.
I say go for it. If I is not a prerequisite then your school probably splits them up too and you shouldn't need I to understand II. :loveya:
