Several had mentioned starting a study thread early so we could get prepared for our fall A&P class, so here goes. I have gathered several websites from both here and on my own, so wanted to post them early on so that we wouldn't have to search for them. Please feel free to add to them and also any advice or study tactics that seem to work for you.
Thankyou to Eveyone here at AllNurses who have provided so much information in one spot.

Ok, that's it for tonight....I have several others but hopefully this will keep everyone busy for a day or 2 :chuckle:yeah:I'm sure we all have diferent study habits and will need to find our own way there but I am hoping we can work together as a study team.
Maybe each day or two, someone could provide a study tip or an mneumonics for memorization for tissues or nerves, anything that is helping you learn. Or if you come accross somethin that you can't use, maybe someone else can.
OFF to Bed for me
Got my cummulative score for our 3-part test(lecture and 2 bone id), I got a 99%. I goofed a little on the lecture portion but got all the bones right!! Phew, now on to muscles....
Congrats on the awesome score!!! We have just started the bones (seems my teacher does everything in a different order!) - do you have any suggestions?

Repetition, repetition, repetition!! LOL I concentrated a lot on the diff. long bones, it took awhile to keep the trochanters, condoyles, epicondyles, and tuberosities straight:bugeyes:
I found this site really helpful too...http://science.nhmccd.edu/biol/skeleton/skeleton.htm. Good luck!

Definitely repetition!!! I went over and over and over them for our test. One thing that helped was:
Greater/Lesser trochanteR is on the femuR. Then you can remember that the tubercles are on the humerus. (and tuber and humer rhyme).
I made up my own pnemonic for the ulna/radius
U(lna)
May (medial)
Read (radius)
Later(lateral)
OR
PU (pinky is by ulna)
RT (radius is by the thumb)
Deltoid tuberosity- is the attachment point for the deltoid muscle (which is on your upper arm or humerus)
Well we have our exams on the muscular system next week (with a little sprinkling of the nervous tissue, yuck). I honestly think I have the muscles down pretty well...they aren't too hard! I am more worried about the lecture aspect- specifically the muscle tissue. We are focusing on skeletal tissue with emphasis at the chemical level (more yuck) and contraction of skeletal muscle. I hope I don't bomb that part!! I need a HIGH A to bring my overall up to an A, because otherwise I have a B in the class. I am not satisfied with that!
Hey guys, just wanted to pass this link on-
http://www.blackwellpublishing.com/matthews/myosin.html
For those who haven't started the muscular system, this is a GREAT animation on the sliding filament theory. It really helped me to grasp the concept.
Wish me luck, I have my exams tomorrow and Wednesday!
Hi Guys, been a long time since I posted here. I have had a very stressful few mths....FT student and have been taking care of a younger cousin who is terminally ill w/ a rare and very aggressive cervical cancer. She is 30 and unfortunately only has a few more wks to live as the cancer has attacked her liver and she is now in a stage 4. She now resides w/me and I have assumed all of her health needs. We have brought in Hope Hospice and her children have gone to live w/their Dad.
Needless to say, I am still in school but have been struggling to keep up my grades between Dr's app and treatments, plus the surgeries and blood transfusions....she was diagnosed only 3 and a 1/2mths ago...right after I started school.
I came out of Chem Lab w/an A...have a high B in Chem lecture but am struggling in A&P 1...I have a high C and am hoping to pull that to a B in the next 4wks....however, this is also Michele's critical time. My Prof are working w/me in all my classes....I have also struggled in my Respiratory class......again a very understanding Dr. teaching this class....and giving me extra time to complete projects. I have had a 4.0 since I started school (back after 30yrs) and although coming out of a couple classes w/a B or maybe even a C is very depressing for me, I have no choice but to follow my heart and continue doing what I am doing and that is taking care of Michele...after all, it is situations like this that we in the Health field will be faced w/down the road.
I did want to touch base w/everyone since I originally started this thread and then disappeared.....it has been very trying and tiring this semester.
I am studying the Brain this wk along w/the cranial nerves,etc.....anyone have any advice? I have an exam on Thurs and have been skimming the ppt's and going over my lab book but could use some added in put....Thanks and hope everyone is doing well.
CracklinRose,
Oh dear!!! You are doing AMAZING!!!! Hang in there. You know you're doing the right thing...she's so lucky to have you. You will look back one day and those grades are not going to be as important as the help you gave your cousin. You can always replace your grades, you can't replace the special times you shared when she needed you most. Looks like you have your priority stright.
Don't sweat too much over the brain and cranial nerves stuff. Actually, I found that to be the easiest part so far. Those mnemonics are big help to me.
You are a STAR!! Best of luck to you. May she dwell in peace.
Hi Cracklin Rose, I'm not taking A&P this quarter, but I wanted you to know that you and your cousin are in my thoughts and prayers! May she dwell in everlasting peace. You are an angel too, to be taking such good care of her. Do a search for the cranial nerves here on AllNurses, and you will find many Mnemoics to help you remember them. Here is one I found:
On (Olfactory)
Old (Optic)
Olympus (Oculomotor)
Tiny (Trochlear)
Tops (Trigeminal)
A (Abducens)
Finn (Facial)
And (Acoustic/Auditory)
German (Glossopharyngeal)
Viewed (Vagus)
Some (Spinal)
Hops (Hypoglossal)
I hope this helps. My heart goes out to you!:heartbeat
