So, I've been looking at drug books (neonatal ones) that say these solutions can be run together. However, my precetor says they can't. Does anybody have information on this?

Hopefully your facility has a good pharmacist. The can be your best friend when it comes to compability questions when you either can't find an answer or get conflicting answers. I always chart something like
Per Bob, pharmD, OK to run x and x together.
At my hospital they are always willing to help you figure anything out!!!

The 2011 Neofax only lists Dex/AA as being incompatible with Ampicillin.
Boratz, Yes, that is the same book we are going off of. It says solution compatibility Dex5 incompatable with Dex/AA. I think she is thinking the Dex/AA is a higher concentration of Dextrose. Or, am I the one reading it wrong?
I believe she is incorrect, but do check with your pharmacy.

It is usually TPN with AA it is incompatible with, regular dextrose is okay. Our pharmacy made us compatibility charts to go by.

According to trissels and Davis they are compatible. Ampicillin cant be stored as long when reconstituted with D5/D10 but are compatible. If you're just y-siting it with D10 then that shouldn't be a problem.
Well thanks all!
