Ammonia Inhalant

Published

Quick question. My school is mounting first aid kits in every room and was wondering if ammonia inhalants are allowed in NYS schools. My boss, the health and safety personnel in my school has no clue of anything.

They do. They are magic.

On the fainter or the lice? Maybe we're on to something :)

I've had them used on me many a time (I was a child fainter). They are ever so unpleasant.

I have them, too. I think I have a dark side that looks forward to the moment I finally get to be the user instead of the usee.

I used them twice on the same kid. It wasn't my finest moment, but I knew he was faking. I wouldn't want a teacher to have to try and determine that a student is faking or has a real need though. I do agree with that point.

We have them, but only in our lab in case a student faints from a blood draw or finger prick.

I've never used that on a student, but I have used a good sternal rub! Ha, he jumped up and yelled, "What in the he!! are you doing?" I knew he was fine then.

Oh, there's nothing like a good sternal rub.

It's also good for waking the kid up in the morning when nothing else works.

I remember them all being pulled from our ER and other first aid kits years ago due to being unsafe.

I love mercury thermometers too. Anytime I go through a small town, I hit up the older grocery stores and drug stores where there is certain to be very old stock on the shelves and I find those thermometers. They ARE the most accurate. I remember as a kid playing with mercury too . . .
