American River College Spring 2016

Published

Hello! I have been looking for a thread for ARC for Spring 2016 and have yet to see one so decided to start one myself! Anyone applying for ARC's ADN program for Spring 2016 that want to share any questions or concerns while we wait for acceptance letters? This is my 5th time applying and am really hoping this is my lucky semester!

Zcao, when did you check and what was your points scored? I'm wondering if they are going in order.

I think it was last week somewhere before Friday. I get my point is 70. Not sure they would do some adjust or not...

I dropped my app of two weeks into September and I believe I was in the 40's. The lady that took my app said that most of the applicants wait till the last week to submit (procrastination? Or they know something I don't?). O yeah eservices is up and running again.

No change to my status

I had a theory that everyone scoring 75 and above had their status changed to qualified on last Friday 10/9. But Advent Murse had status changed on 10/8, so that shot my theory. I wonder why they don't just tell us upfront what their process is. I don't even know what they think my points are. Did I get all categories that I thought I would?

Those who were qualified but not selected for the program, please tell me how you find out what score they gave you? I mean, it appears that even if you're qualified, say at 60 points, you may still not be in the lottery pool because they only put top 1/3 qualified applicants in the pool.

According to the ARC statistics an applicant cant be qualified regardless of points, but only individuals with 70 or more or 1/3 are placed into the pool. I just assumed that the point amount the individual receives is reflected by the prescreen criteria.

sorry, I meant to say can be qualified regardless of points.

Ok. That makes sense. I just wonder how we can find out if the points we submitted were accepted. For instance, did I get the full points that I submitted or did they reject a particular criterion due to insufficient docs?

The first time I applied I used a certificate that I have for taking classes on cardiac arrhythmias (for the relevant healthcare certificate portion of the criteria form) and they rejected it so I got a letter in the mail deducting 5 points from what I applied with. So I believe if there are any point discrepancies/deductions they will send you a letter to notify you

Oh that sounds fair that they would notify if we didn't get the points! And so that means I have 75 points since I didn't get any notifications!

Also, I just heard from someone who said they waited until very close to the deadline and he was app #170 something. So my guess is there will be around 200ish apps this time. One third of that is under 70 apps but if they put all who scored 70 points in the pool, it may be around 100 apps in the pool. That means everyone in the pool has about 1 in 3 chance of getting picked. Not too bad odds.

That's good to know! I hope the odds are in our favor this round, I've been waiting long enough lol
