American River College fall 2018 hopefuls

Published

I didn't see a thread for this semester, so I started one. I'm applying now. Taking the TEAS in a couple of weeks and submitting everything right after. It's my first time applying. I am really nervous! I am honestly not gonna get my hopes up because I know people going on their 5th time applying, so that's a little demoralizing. I am considering Sac City and USF Sac campus as well, but I would rather not graduate with a ton of debt from a private school.

How is everybody doing?

I looked at the statistics and every year seems like there is more and more ppl last fall it was around 244

The stats show ppl that apply without 70 points so I think some ppl cant count and also some probably try to apply anyways. Has anyones status changed to qualified yet? Mine all say received so I am anxiously waiting.

Mine still says 'received', might take some time before it turns to qualified.

I've applied 3 other time and anxiety of it all can get really bad I'd suggest to keep busy until April with work etc & what I ment about the point system is that you were able to apply before without 70 points and be considered qualified even though u would never be in the pool to get selected and this semester is the FIRST time where u can't apply without 70 points which means there statistics will change from now on

First time applying and I also have my form received, I'm not really worried about it since I'm sure I qualify...it should change sometime this month...im looking forward for April, I really desire to work in the ER in the future..how about you all any plans??

I have talked to so many friends of mine who are RNs about where I might like to work after I graduate, and the conclusion I always come up with is that I'll figure it out once I'm going througho or finish clinicals! I know I don't want to work trauma or orthopedics, but I'm pretty open besides that!

I found the same topic from exactly a year ago, their status changed around March 6, 2017 for ARC.

Does anyone know if SCC status will change also? Some say it does and some say it does not.

Yeah normally it's in March but I've seen some go until April to become qualified

I am looking to get a master's in midwifery in the future, so I really want to go into labor and delivery. Pediatrics or NICU would probably be my next choice, but I'm pretty open to anything as far from an ER as possible hahah. I can deal with traumas, but it's not something I want to see every day. That's kinda why I want to go to community college and not pay 80k for a nursing degree because the master's program I'm looking at is 60k.

Im also hoping to get my masters in midwifery although I'm considering family practice nurse practitioner as well. Where are you looking at for your masters? There are not a ton of CNM programs and most ppl I see go to Frontier.

Yeah, I would most likely do Frontier. I've met a couple of the preceptors in town and I really liked them, but I don't see myself doing it for probably 5 years after I get my RN because I want to have a baby as soon as I graduate. I don't want to go to school while I have an infant or toddler., so I would probably wait till said hypothetical child started TK or K.

Last year I heard a rumor that UC Davis may start a midwifery program in the next few years, so that would be awesome. I know they are at least thinking about it.

I would be so excited if UC Davis had a program. When I was younger I always wanted to go there. I already have 3 kids (which is what sparked my midwifery interest) so I would want to start as soon as possible but I guess I have to get accepted to nursing school first lol. School is really tough with young kids and I have not even gotten past pre reqs. Mine are 3,5 and 7 so I finally have a little more freedom and 2 will be in school this fall.
