Am I Typhoid Tazzi?????

Nurses General Nursing

Published

i'm starting to get a complex here......about 3 weeks ago a pt of mine went into the hospital. since then three others have gone in after i took them on. this morning i called the daughter of the first pt to see how she was doing and i hear "she passed away this morning." never made it out of the hospital.

the second pt had a toe amp due to gangrene, and the infection spread in spite of daily visits. he went back for a bka. *btw.....when the wife told me the pt had to have a bka she started yelling on the phone to me....."i want you girls....you and that other nurse...to come back here when he comes home from the hospital!!!" *

a third had a wound infection that was draining so much we couldn't keep up with it. she went in.

the last one........i discharged him from nursing services last thursday and two days later he stroked again.

i think i'll crawl into bed and stay there.........

Honey, your patients are really sick, which is why home nursing care is available to them.

Hang in there.

One of my favorite nurses, my mentor and role model, is so good that I kind of hope she's never my nurse, because if there's a train wreck coming, they usually assign him to her. Me, I'd rather not be hospitalized at all, but if I am, I hope I'm like one of the patients I used to get, who was undoubtedly going to get better as long as his marginally-competent, first-year nurse didn't actively kill him.

So I kind of almost take it as a compliment that I'm starting to get some crappier patients, from time to time.

I don't know you, of course, but from reading your posts, I get the distinct impression that I hope I'm never the sort of patient about whom they say, "I think we'd better give this one to Tazzi..."

(I mean that as a compliment, just in case it isn't clear.)

I know this is difficult for you to witness all of this, but for some reason, I pick up a person who is very loving (meaning you) and you are what these people need at this time.

i have to agree with this, tazz.

esp, that you are in the right place at the right time.

expounding on my more spiritual side, whether a pt dies, or is rehospitalized, both situations have allowed you to either be there, or enable you to be there later.

trust in the fact that you are where you are supposed to be.

and keep on doing what you're doing.

someone 'upstairs' is truly proud of you.

Home health pts can get admitted and readmitted to the hospital like a revolving door. Some pts don't tolerate getting discharged from HH and get sick get admitted and get HH again so they can go back home. Think of it, most of them would be institutionalized if HH was not available.

Tazz, UGH, you indeed have the proverbial black cloud, known to follow all the new ICU nurses. Why? because you CARE, pick up the details that others may be missing, take care of really SICK people and well some of these folks are so sick that the best care doesn't cure them

*hugs*

just love 'em while you have 'em and keep on trucking along, you ARE doing good.
