To start a little about myself:
I have regretedly wasted about 3 years at my community college (entered in 2013) completing an AA. I left highschool with no ambition, no identity, poor confidence and low self esteem, and no clue on what I wanted to do. My selected major was Mass comm with the intention to become a Public Relations Specialist . I then transferred to FIU but then decided to go back to Miami Dade community college for nursing (my dream is to become a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner).
That being said, I turned 22 this month and I am currently enrolled in these courses for the coming spring:
MAT 1033
CHM 1033 +Lab
DEP
HSC
(Later- BSC 2085+Lab, BSC 2086+Lab, and I think an optional MCB)
I know i cannot change the past but im embarrassed abut my situation. I assume that I should have already been done and working by now. If I decided to have started nursing from highschool, I don't think I would be in this current situtation. I still live with my parents and I am not working since I plan on attending full time.
Assuming things go well (get good gpa, pass hesi, get accepted)
I will be 23 years old when I'm able to start MDC's nursing program in 2018 spring.
Is this late? If so, what are some tips on finishing classes as early as possible?
Lol 23 years old starting nursing school. I wish I would have done that. I went to a university right out of high school because that's what was expected of me. I didn't know what to do so I had no drive to do anything so I quit after not even completing a semester. I fell into the vet tech position at a research facility and have been doing that ever since. I will be accepted into a nursing program at 28 hopefully. I moved back in with my mom with the intentions of working part time when I am in school. Do I wish I could go back in time and find my passion earlier? Yes, but there's no turning back time. Just look ahead and go for your dreams because, we are blessed enough to be able to do so. You got this!
Honey you aren't old at all. I am 27 and just finished my prerequisite. I will apply in march and hopefully get in I will start the program at 28 years old and graduate at 30. I don't feel old just feel pressures because my fiancée is ready to start a family and I plan on going to graduate school for anesthesia.
I had a lot of issues to overcome so I am driven to make my dreams come true.
-my tips are this
-stay focused and on your goals
-take the classes relevant to your program to finish prerequisites early
-Ask a lot of questions and see your counselors to help out.
This is not too late at all!! You are still very young and have many options to decide what direction you want to go. I started at a community college when I was around 22. I wasn't ready for college right out of highschool. I feel as if I wasted 3 years at the Community college completing all of my nursing prerequisites and could not get accepted into a nursing program for the life of me! So I continued with another year of taking more and more classes towards my degree. I found myself 3 years into college with no degree and over 53+ credits. I applied to multiple RN ADN/BSN programs and with such high competition and limited seats offered in the programs near me I found myself not accepted wasting more and more years!! I was devastated and kept thinking about my age! I then realized that everyone is different and everybody will have a different path for a reason! Our life events, struggles and accomplishments mold us into the person we are meant to be! Stay proud of what your aiming for and never take your eye off of the prize at the end of the tunnel! I still find myself needing a positive uplift and simply tell myself that it will all work out how it is suppose to in the end and to not give up no matter what! I am now 26 years old and finally got accepted into an PN program that bridges into a RN ADN degree. I am very excited to be finally starting this journey! LPN or RN in the end I will still be a nurse! What's most important is starting my nursing degree, one way or another! Looking back now, taking the time to take alllll of those prerequisites wasn't a waste of time at all! Those three years helped me learn my learning style, what type of studier I am and helped me to learn how to retain information the best. Those three years have better prepared me for the challenges that I will face in nursing school in the future. The biggest advice I have is to not listen to other people's negative remarks. Keep your head up and stay focused on YOUR goals! It will all happen when it is suppose to! Just stay positive and happy along the way! :) I wish you the best in your future endeavors!

I am in the same boat, I am 26 and my fiancé of 4 years is waiting on me to start a family and graduate!! I just got accepted into a PN program starting January 2017 I'll be 27 when I get my LPN and 29 when I get my RN, yet I am thinking about doing my LPN and working while doing a 1yr online RN, I'll think about that after getting through PN school!! Our significant others are our biggest fans but it is so hard sometimes to have to wait! The stress of balancing school, and personal life is very difficult. However, I know in the end it will feel that much better when everything falls into place! Keep on working hard! Best of luck getting accepted!! I wish you the best in your future career! :)
Then you'd be super embarrassed if you were me. I just graduated from an Accelerated BSN at the age of 28. You're 22. You have your whole life ahead of you. Relax and enjoy yourself. It looks like you'll be busy next semester.
Im going to go a different route and say you are late. The fact that youre not working and still relying on your parents in your mid 20's speaks volume.. But if your parents are willing to let you stay than go for it!
It's not like she's in her parents' basement playing video games all day. She's going to school full time, at least.

I'm 32 and starting nursing school in January. I spent 5 years getting a BS that I really never used, spent 3 years after college stuck in retail, 4 years at an OB/GYN office discovering that I love healthcare. Did my pre-reqs last summer.
