I'm about to graduate from a hospital based RN diploma program. Congrats on choosing/geting accepted into one. I bet you'll get an excellent education. I know my classes have been wonderful, and my clinical experiences far surpass what is offered to local ADN/BSN students.
I've heard good things about the program I am going to attend. I'm so excited to get started!
I am in the Dallas, Texas area and as far as I know there is not a hospital based diploma program here. I remember when I was just starting out I looked for one, but couldn't find one locally.
I know my school has quoted the figure to me, I think there's only around 90 some diploma RN programs left in the country.
I wish there were opportunities like that in my area for people who want to pursue nursing. Unfortunately, I don't think there are any here. We do have hospital based programs for Radiology which you receive a degree in and CNA where you get a certificate. The Radiology one is harder to get into than some of the nursing programs around here and accepts no scholarship/aid. It's pricey!
I believe its the same core curriculum for most RN programs throughout the U.S. except that you don't have to do pre-reqs/GEs with the ADN program. The only downside I believe is that some hospitals will not hire you as a diploma nurse (at least in california)
All the diploma programs I know of in my area, and there are at least 4, DO have you take "pre-req's" My school has an agreement with a local college so we can take A&P and other necessary college classes. As far as not getting hired, why wouldn't they hired you, as long as you pass your boards, I fail to see the problem. Out here, diploma school grads are very desireable by hospitals.

I'm curious if I am the only one attending a hospital based diploma nursing program? I've noticed most people on here are talking abour ADN or BSN programs. Just wondering if I am alone??
