Alvin Community College Spring 2018-ADN

Published

Hey guys! I did not see a thread for students applying to the spring 2018 ADN at alvin cc. Who all applied? I emailed Karen and she said "APPROXIMATELY" by Nov 17th they will send out emails as to whether you were accepted, on wait list, or denied.

First semester you will be going to long term care facilities which are essentially nursing homes. It's 4 weeks of rotations. I am a 2nd semester student so I just finished up this semester.

You will love alvins program. Good luck!

Edit* tried to quote someone but I guess I hit reply!!

Will you please update & let me know how it is? I was attending San Jac... but honestly after my second semester I cannot stand the place! I'm looking to start over at ACC. #timewasted

Do you mind telling us why you have chosen to leave San Jac? Which campus? North, South or Central.

I attended Central. Honestly, it's very disorganized & disrespectful. They will bend rules for some students, but not others. Even among the professors you can tell that they have high school issues. Most importantly there are no student privacy. I won't say I learned nothing, but I definitely desire more.

Just received my acceptance email from Alvin.

I just received my acceptance!

How do you like the program so far?

I just came across this thread as I was doing a google search for the acc adn program and have never used this site and not sure where to post my question. I have a bachelors degree in biological sciences and wanted to go into nursing now. I talked to San Jac and College of the Mainland so far; of the two only COM accepts my prerequisites for the sciences because they are over 5 years since I have taken them. Does Alvin require you to have completed the science prerequisites within 5 years of acceptance in their nursing program? Also is their program a continuous program where you can take courses during the summer as well or just fall and spring, also is it full time (8-5 M-F)? I wanted to work while in nursing school but it doesn't look like thats possible, correct?

I'm a second semester student at alvin. They didnt accept any of the sciences after 5 years when i applied so maybe call their nursing office and ask. It really just depends on the day and the semester with time but we always got out by 3:30. Usually 8:30-11 or 8:30-2:30. This semester we have some days that we are here until 3:30 To make up for school closage. Monday-thursday is our school days.

I absolutely love it. I hear some horror stories about some of the surrounding programs and am so happy I chose Alvin. It's a tough school to get into but worth the wait. I was put on that wait list or whatever it is called the first time then I got accepted.

Skills are awesome because they give hands on training and explanations for everything. So far this semester I am really enjoying the content and our hospital clinicals. You learn so so much in the hospital and it's fun.

Also, don't let anyone scare you out of nursing school. It takes a lot of work and dedication but it is definitely doable!

Sorry for the late reply...I'm just now seeing this. We're only a month in, but so far so good. The program is well organized which is opposite of some of the other programs I looked into.

Are clinicals 2 days 8-9 hrs or 1 day 12hrs?

Also, is there a summer break or summer classes available?
