Alvin Community College ADN Spring 2015

Published

Starting a thread for people applying for Spring 2015 at Alvin Community College. Also wondering if anyone knows what counts as proof for Hepatitis B immunity?

@derrick86 @ethiorn I can PM you all information needed to go through the program that I went through. Even if you don't qualify for financial aid alot of the scholarships can be added on to another to get the same effect. But when I say they are easy to get, I mean I applied one week and got a call that I was the recipient the next. I also did not have to write an essay or what not but alot of the larger scholarships require you to do one, but its still a small essay for a huge reward so I personally think that they are worth it! I will send you the information I have but also look into the local ones including any that Alvin have one their website and through the financial aid office.

Every school has a foundation of some sort that offer various scholarships. Here are a few that you could look into applying to:

As a transfer student, before applying please inquire if you are allowed to take the scholarship/grant funding and apply it to any school of your choice.

@vslater, trust me I totally understand because I too already have a degree and I refuse to take out anymore student loans. But I was just awarded a scholarship which covers tuition & books so please look into outside scholarships, they are very easy to get and not many people are utilizing them. I also heard you can get assistance through the worksource, (they have a program/grants specifically designed for the nursing program.) I previously completed my FBI Background Check and received my blue card for another college and I have also paid for PreCheck last Friday. I'm waiting closer to Dec/Jan to get my CPR card done.

@FuturRN, how long did it takes to get the blue card ? I applied at the begning of this month. Thanks

If I'm not mistaken it took about 4 weeks no longer than 6 weeks. So hopefully you should be receiving it before orientation if not sooner! :)

I just received my blue card :) Thanks @FutureRN:)

Perfect! Looking forward to meeting everyone at orientation...I'm anxious and nervous to start in Jan...it will be here in no time!!!

Hello All, I saw this in another school's thread and thought I'd ask but any idea on whether we have to take the Hesi as an EXIT exam? I saw that some schools require the Hesi to prepare for the NCLEX. I'm sure we will find out more at orientation though. I was also told by a former student that ACC requires a dosage exam after each semester and if you do not pass after the 3rd attempt you are kicked out of the program.

I took pharmacology and we did the dosage calculation. So it just needs time to do a lot of practice and we should be fine. I am wishing you all a happy Thanksgiving. I am so thankful for you guys in this forum for helping out with answering questions and for sharing helpful informations. May God bless you. I am looking forward to see you next week :)

Me too ethiorn...looking forward to meeting you all...Have a safe & happy thanksgiving week!!! :)

I hope you guys had a wonderful holiday. I worked & still enjoy my day taking care of my patients & had delicious turkey :)

@FutureRN do you take pharmacology already?

Here is websites where we can do an early practice to stay a head of the game:)
