I got accepted into a program that I know is going to be strenuous and time consuming, today we got the packet for our program. So much to look over. Fingerprinting, scrubs, vaccines, book list, it's so much! I'm not worried about the time it might consume, I'm worried about the money it's going to cost me! ( I knew what I was getting myself into, it the application it stated that you must be ready to meet the financial demand of the program). I will do it, and I will be broke, but it will be worth it! Just a little rant/vent. Anyone else in this situation? I am excited, it's more real now! Who's with me?

Same here! I just got my acceptance email today! I won't get my packet until I pay my deposit. But with the stuff I have to do BEFORE I even get to the ditty-gritty of books, etc is already overwhelming! I'm a PCT now so I thought all my vaccines, etc were up to date since I did the program last year. WRONG!! Just so much to get together before August. But I'm grinning as I get all of the paper work together. I'm ready and excited!

I know! And those suckers aren't cheap! Lol I'm very honored to even be in this program, I guess they are just telling us ahead of time what they expect from us!

I know exactly how you feel and I haven't even got my letter yet. I'll be paying out of pocket for school plus working full time to pay rent bills etc. I will be broke but I will appreciate it so much more!!

I just registered for my background check and drug screening to the tune of $80. In 2 weeks I will take the CPR for Healthcare Providers class for $56. I have to get scrubs because I have lost weight, I need a good stethopscope, and there is a shopping list of things attached to my packet as well. Also there are immunizations, boosters, and a TB test that I have to have (again). I had to quit the job I held for 10 years in order to be able to go to nursing school, and sometime between doing all of these little piddly things I've got to manage to find a different job with more flexible hours (I was a teachers assistant in SpEd). The book total they quote is around $2000 by itself. I am taking summer classes (the extras toward my bachelors degree), and I borrowed extra money for this term in order to have the money to pay for the books somewhere besides the campus bookstore (I won't get on my soapbox about them). I am looking forward to beginning the program, and having all of these little things done.

I'm not sure what state you are in, but I'm in TN and I was able to receieve help from the WIA through the local career center and they paid for basicallly everything, books, tuition, scrubs, etc. And you don't have to pay it back or anything. Just thought that might be something you could look into! It helped me tremendously! Good luck!

All those shots, special scrubs, books (yikes), traveling, equipment, and hours will be worth it!! I get financial aid so thank goodness my tuition is paid for, and I also had to pull out a small student loan to cover expenses while in school ( car payment, Christmas for the kids, bills, etc.) I will be working 6-18 a week, just to keep my foot in the door at a rehabilitation center I've been at for over 2 years, my boss has already promised me a job as an LPN so that's exciting! Just have to get through this year guys!!!! We can do it!!

Specializes in Postpartum, Mother/Baby, Comm. Health, Geriatric.

I was prepared for the dreaded packet because I work in a pediatric specialty center and we have students (Pharmacy, nursing, social work, etc...) and I help check out the packets. I am very excited and anxious, but I must say...reality set in after reviewing the packet for orientation. Best wishes future :nurse:s!

Anyone else required to have Hep A Vaccination??? I haven't had mine. The only one I'm lacking. Apparently it's newly required, and since I'm not 18 or under the state health department doesn't do hep a vaccines unless you are low income and under 18. So I have to pay out of pocket at an occupational health clinic 149 for the injection and 75 for the office visit. Plus go back in 6 months and get the 2nd round.... so another 250 then. Whew what we go thru, I thought the wait before finding out I was accepted was stressful.... this is even more stressful trying to get everything in the packet together by the 1st day of class. Which is only 2 weeks away! :) im blessed though! Good luck everyone!

Yes I have to!! Luckily I had the first two at a young age but for some reason not the last one. So I just have to get one. And I have to get a tetnaus shot cause they are required every 10 years. Stress isn't even the word!!

Oooo I read it wrong. I don't have to get a hep A. Just a Hep B

I have to get my second Hep A shot, my insurance will cover it thankfully. I also need to get a second TB shot, which my employment will do. I'm cutting corners in all the places I can. A former student said she will sell me all the books for 430. They replaced 5 of them this year so that's 5 books that I can't buy from someone. But my physical exam and my shots will be taken care of without having to spend money or of pocket. Our uniforms though, are super expensive!
