what is the best "book-bag" in your opinion? I have not bought all of the books yet, but it seems like your average bag will not handle the 8-10 thousand pages that are required. thanks in advance.:uhoh3:

LOL.... OMG do I remember that. My first semester I had a rolling suitcase. BRING ALL THE BOOKS BACK !!!!! get a palm pilot. I will hold aprox. 7 of the books that you need to lug around all day. dictionary, meds, IV's, Nrs dx, all you will then need is you medsurg books a notebook and a big binder. good luck

I just finished Nursing 2 :yeah:.

I tell you for nursing1, I carried a lot of books. For a short period of time! For lecture, all you need is either the Fundamentals book (if you like reading while they lecture) and your power points for notes. If not, then just bring a notebook and your power points. I put my attention to what they were saying in class and jotted any notes down on the power points and I left the books for reading at home.

Are you starting in fall?

Yes, I am starting in September (Newport N/W). Any suggestions for this summer (ie. what to read, concentrate on). I am taking dosage over the summer as a refresher. Thanks for any advice and good luck in your future.

Congrats to your entrance to the program in September.

I would suggest if you have the fundamentals book of Nursing to start reading "the Nursing Process." It consist of roughly 6-7 chapters and it will be on your first exam. Since you are taking dosage as a refresher, you should be okay for the dosage exam. Thats one less thing to worry about. But in reading the NP in advance, you will find it less stressful or rather one less thing on your plate.

The first semester seems like its hard but in all reality its not. The reason being is that everything is new to you and theres tons of things happening at one time (like a snowball effect). But as the semester goes by, you start to wind down and get a grip on things. The paper work for clinincals seems hard, but thats because like anything else it will be new to yoiu. Once you get it, it also will become easier.

Just hang in there. It will go by quick! I remember like if it was yesterday awaiting the phone call into the program and now im going into nursing 5!! :)

Providence does it backwards- nursing 1-2 then 5-4. But, im getting close to the finish line!!

so is it good to keep your books from day one? I'm taking dosage in the fall but don't expect to have my pre-req's done for another 2 years or more... Is is good to take a refresher course?

Those bags on wheels seem pretty popular at my uni.

I don't bring things to nursing school unless I absolutely have to, so that cuts down on weight a lot. I invested in a Crumpler a few months ago, they are really well made and seem to make the load a bit lighter. They are the kinds of bags that are designed to hold lots and lots of stuff and well worth the investment. But if you want to carry everything around with you (or need to) get the bags with wheels otherwise you'll end up hurting yourself.

I took a refresher course of dosage before I started also. I went to my instructor that had previously and she remebered me. She actually let me sit in on the classes that I needed and take the tests. FREE OF CHARGE. look into it. Another class that you might be interested in is "physical assesment for nurses" They teach you how to do a head to toe assesment. what you should be looking for and why. This class helped me A LOT.... Beg to get in this class... totally worth it.

I definitely freaked out when I saw all the required books for Nursing...lol, but I honestly never used 1 for class... bring your powerpoints for lecture and TAKE NOTES....don't waste your time looking in books.... you have the rest of your time to do that. I'm starting IV in the Fall.. and I've come to realize reading the chapters before lectures are very very helpful. But like I said, just bring your powerpoints for lecture! Don't stress your back!
