since there has been a few people in need of NET help, i will break it down to you guys!
___________
people... you are native americans, it makes it easy for you to do way better that i did... once again HERE IT GOES HOW TO REALLY DO GREAT ON YOUR NET TEST.
EASY NET in 6 STEPS
1 you have to have some time to study, allow your self about 2 hours a day (i was able to learn all the subjects and study on my own and at work!!!) you have to sacrifice whatever it is but make it 2-3 holy hours per day no matter what! (for about 10 days)
2 go to www.testprepreview.com and download and print their NET nurse entrance test, youll find it on the left hand side. then once you have it, you print it about 10 copies and staple 10 sets, they will be your everyday practice sets. now that you have done that, you will go to http://www.midland.edu/~hsd/pdf/8-NET_Test.pdf and do the exact same thing, make 10 copies and staple the sets, this is another GREAT EXCELENT exam and both of them are lets say 99% of what you need to know to score at least a 85 on your net and I GUARANTEE IT!.
3your studying schedule, first of all you are going to take the first test either one you choose, and you will solve it, take your time, try to understand, come online and post (lets ask for a sticky on this only for the net thread Huh? please all nurses!!!) well you will answer all the questions you can, and do not check yet to verify your answers, once you finish all the questions you know, you will then verify those answers, then whatever you could not solve, just come here and post the number of the questions and whether it is from plato or test prep, that i will step by step answer it and assist you.
you will then get the next NET and solve it also...and again, once you have doubts post them here and i will help you.
After doing that for 5 days, you on the weekend will go to discovery.com or any other science website and you will read about 3-5 articles, just so you can update, improve, sharpen your infra-reading skills, do dot skip this step, do that on the weekend so you can take a break on your studies and prepare for the second week.
On your second week you will start timing your self, you will give your self 1 minute per question, so total it like 60 minutes for 60 math questions! and time your self on the english part also, wich actually is the most time consuming questions.
4 it is getting close for you to take the NET and you have about 3-4 days prior to it, so now you will do this technique that i call compilation, you will add all the math questions from both tests and you will solve them back to back, as many as you can, when you need a break take a quick one, but make it your goal to solve all of them!!! and by this time you should be getting at least 90% of them right!! once you are done with that, you will just answer 15 random questions on the english part.
On the day after you will invert, you will then solve all the english part, (again, as many as you can with no breaks, then once you need one do not hesitate but do not loose your "studystamina" wich i call concentration) done with that, you shall then answer 15 math question, try getting those ones that gives you a hard time and you often miss them, please try timing your self be generous, give your self 19 minutes for them.
Again repeat the step 4 on the next day.
5 It is now 2 days before the test, and at this day you will not study, you will not drill, you will only make sure, that you have no doubts and all your math and words are sharp, posting doubts, and making sure you are up to par!
On the day before your test you will do this, you will give yourself 1 hour on the clock to solve 30 math questions, and 30 english in the morning, and repeat that at night, just to wrap it all up.
6 it is NET DAY, today you will not freak out because you are prepared, you solved your problems, you found the meaning and main ideas of the paregraphs, and you are doing just awesome not it is time to show it to your self.
Taking the NET:
you might start with a essay sometimes that is not required, if not you will go to MATH, you are going to start solving your test, 100% concentration right here, if you stumble uppon a question that you might be having a tiny bit of trouble with it just skip it, dont guess, and go to the next one, so by the end of the test you saved your self plenty of time to solve those 5-6 questions that you were having trouble with, now just press the button on the computer (of course if it is computer based version) "uncheck questions only" and the system will only display the ones you left for last, doing so you will save time on the easy ones, and have actualy more then 1 minute per remaining questions.
Now when it comes to the english portion i recomend you glance-read the paragraf, take a peek at the question and then you can go back to the paragraph and choose the right answer, they are not long paragraphs, often 200 hundred words...
AND NOW YOU ARE DONE
great job!
just follow this and you will be great and at least score a minimum of a composite 85.... i got a 92!
and that will not guarantee your admission... but it will have a great weight and consideration
Please moderators, can you make this a sticky note?
What he posted should be enough, however, if you can... I'd recommend going to your school library and seeing if you could possibly check out the book because I found it helpful due to the fact that it explained HOW to do the math if you were having a problem, rather than just practicing problems, knowing what you got wrong, but no explanation as to how to get it done correctly. Also the book explained subject verb agreement, punctuation, sentence structure, and these things are on the NET. And I didn't not find any practices for that kind of stuff and I didn't bother reading them in the booklet, but if I had, it would have helped tremendously. I didn't think I would need help, but I should have looked into that stuff but I was only focused on the math (primarily) and I did end up getting a 93% on the math, which was great .. but only a 70% on the reading (which apparently was really good lol)
So you will probably be fine without the book, but if you can .. rent it from the library .. or your school library may also have other books on Nursing Entrance Tests that you can check out. Maybe even Barnes & Noble you could go look and just sit there and go through it without buying it.
Good luck! =)
I took the NET in december, and did horrible on the reading comprehension. I was so disappointed after taking pre-reqs for the last 7 months and making all A's and then doing so poorly on the test. I can't apply to TWU now for the fast track or for the fall of 2009 since we are only allowed to take the test once per application cycle, which they have the same cycles for both of those semesters. The next time I can take it is for the Spring of 2010. I talked to TWU and they said to re-take in the fall for the Spring, however I just saw that on their website, they have a claim that says for the Spring of 2010 they will have another test!!!!! I am so anxious about this. Csantos mentioned that it was sold to asi. I googled this and could not find anything about it. Does anyone have any specific information about this or know any information at all? Everyone i know who took the NET made in the 70's and I just felt so stupid and disappointed.
i dont have the eri book... im using the stuff carlos posted...do you think this will be enough? Im gonna work on doing it quick in the next couple of weelsw... how many questions is the actual test and in how much time? math section and reading section... im concentrating my studies on math, i usually do very well with reading comp, and i will def. stufy as he suggested on the discovery site, but the math is what worries me, if you have any other tips...
I could not afford the book, so i had no choice!!!!
i did though bought the online test prep off ERI website!!!
i know it will repeat the same test, but the main idea is for you to get a feel of it, to try, to use your time wisely, to use what you have been studying, i will recomend to take the test seriously, since the questions are going to repeat any time you log in!!!
but think about this, you are having a chance to feel how it is to take the net, being timed and everything, getting reports after, it is just like having a chance to take the net once just to try!
it will get you more confident, less nervous, and will give you one advantage over others TIMING!!!! since you have the idea how it is, when you are actualy taking it, you know what to skip , what not, and how much time can you spend wisely to make sure to have a chance to come back and rethinking someting!!!
many people know the subject, but have poor test taking skills, and they dont get the score they deserved!!!
TIMINg, it is one of the keys!
Hey everyone! I took the NET this morning and it went great. Not that diificult at all. The majority of the math questions were fraction and percentage questions. The reading comprehension isn't difficult, but a lot of people had trouble finishing it in the allotted time - 30 min for 33 questions.
Now its time to play the waiting game - our acceptance/denial letters go out next month!
Good luck to everyone applying and have a wonderful day! :flwrhrts:
I took the NET this morning at 8:30
I hope I did ok, i need at least an 80 i think to get into my program
the math was a breeze, its the reading im worried about
it was the same test as last time- hippocrates, bacteria, and the ear. but i took it 6 months ago so i didnt remember much
they said 3 weeks to get our results in the mail but i think it came sooner last time, maybe 2 weeks? im nervous
Thanks for this info - I will probably be taking the NET next week sometime. I was going to try taking it this week but changed my mind. Decided that I needed more time to do a bit of reviewing and preparation for it. I'll be printing out the practice tests, plus I've gotten a book from Borders that covers the NET and will be using that too.
"they said 3 weeks to get our results in the mail but i think it came sooner last time, maybe 2 weeks?"
I was under the impression that you got your results right away, being that it's actually taken on computer. Is it true that you don't know what the results will be for at least two weeks? I know that at the college testing center where I will be taking it, they give you the option of taking by computer or taking a written version of it where you fill it out by pencil. I plan on opting to take the computer version of it. I think I remember seeing somewhere that you will get the results right away as soon as you are done, and can actually print them out for your own records as well as a copy for the nursing school people etc

We had to do ours the old-fashioned way....pencils and scantrons. If you can take it on the computer and get your results quicker, do it! I took mine Saturday morning and we were told it would be about 1.5 weeks until we got our scores. The suspense is going to give me an ulcer! Good luck!!
Csantos, Can you help me with the following questions?33. Four tenths of 18 equals:
41. 1.5/50% = ?
45. Express 8.6% as a reduced fraction.
46. Express 160% as a decimal.
33. 4/10 x 18 = X convert 4/10 to a decimal
4/10 = 0.4 no work your problem
0.4 x 18 = 7.2
41 1.5/50% well this looks confusing but it isnt if you spread stuff out a bit
1.5 divided 50%
50% is equal to 50/100
which simplifies to 1/2
which converts to decimal form as .5
so now your new problem is 1.5 / 0.5 = x 0.3
45 8.6%
drop the %
divide by 100
8.6/100 = .086
now convert to a fraction by placing it over 1000 because you are 3 places past the decimal
86/1000 now reduce
43/50
46. 160% drop the %
160 divide by 100
160/100 = 1.6
I hope these help you

The information that Carlos posted is great information and should be just fine. I used the information Carlos used plus the ERI book. I took a computer version and there were 30 questions and you got 30 minutes. They were no harder then the ones you are doing on the site Carlos gave. Please continue doing what your doing cause it seems to be working for you. You only missed 2 which is in the 90 percentile and that is very good. If you have any questions on how to do any of the problems you can always post them here or send me a private message and I will do what I can to explain how to do them.
Also on ERI's site they have a NET practice test that you can take for $15 dollars. This test is setup exactly like the one you will take at your school. This will give you a feel for the testing process and the questions and where you stand. If you have the $15 I would do that a few days before taking the test, so you can get rid of all the worries and doubts you are having. That is the only extra advice I would give other then take a deep breath, relax, and have faith in yourself and the time you a putting into studing.
