Just wondering who all has/is submitting their application for the October due date for the AF for the up and coming boards?
here is the link and article about more funding and extension to tricare. my recruitor told me in nov that if more funding came through they would maybe create more nursing jobs, then start selecting from the alternate list. hope this is the funding he was talking about!

2011 pay raise and tricare expansion
week of december 27, 2010
thenational defense authorization act for fiscal year 2011 was passed by congress and has been sent to the president for signature. touted as the largest defense budget since wwii, the bill authorizes $725 billion for fiscal year 2011. the bill covers virtually every aspect of military spending including authorization for expanding tricare coverage to include dependents up to age 26, tricare fee protection, family support and care giver programs and a 1.4 percent increase in military pay.
just fyi for new grad nurses, if you want to get into the air force, you're most likely bet is to put down OB instead of Med-Surg because there is an overflow of new grad M/S nurses. that's what one of the new NTP students told me at work this past week. she wanted to be in M/S but ended up putting down OB as her recruiter told her to do so.
i'm a newbie USAF nurse. the application process is still fresh to me, so if you have any questions just shoot away!
happy new year to all!
Great idea. I am a recent grad (RN associates) looking for a job (not so easy anymore) to help me get back into the AF( 10 years prior enlisted). I call the Recruiter this month and I start my BSN this month (the recruiter said I could not start until 365 days before I graduate). All this talk about few openings scares me. I am really wanting and planning to be back in in 2012. (hope and pray!) ANy more good ides will be great THank you!

I have not heard any more updates from my recruiter since last week. He told me I am still #2 on the ER alternate list. According to him there is not a scheduled fully qualified board again until next fiscal year which would be in the fall of 2011. I asked him again about having to "compete" at that board if a position does not become available in the meantime and he told me I would not be competing but would get a slot. I know this is different information than the other alternates are hearing from their recruiters. I don't know if the difference is my place in the line or my specialty. In the meantime I am trying to stay busy and study for my GRE. I will keep you all posted if I hear something new.
