Air Force nursing FY2021

Hello all,

I have looked all over this site in hopes of finding others that are getting their packets ready and are applying to the Air Force this fall. I have not found any recent threads on this.

I am applying for an ER spot. I have been a RN for 7 years and work in a Level II trauma emergency center. I have my MSN-Administrative Leadership and TCRN. Is there anyone out there that is also getting their packets ready for October boards? My recruiter told me that because of COVID everything has been pushed back and that boards will meet in October this year. He also told me that I would be going to MEPS and doing my medical in the next 3 weeks.

The consultant interview was over the phone. It was more a conversation with the consultant making sure I understood what life as an AD NP would be like, because I've been a civilian NP for over a decade. He did ask several specific questions about how my family would handle moves and deployments. I have a 6 hour drive to get to the chief nurse interview! I was told that interview would be different and more like a real job interview.

I'm nervous for MEPs, because I'm older and have had a few minor medical things over the years. I'm nervous they'll just keep asking for more medical records and more medical records and take forever. I'm so old that many of my records have been destroyed. Has anyone dealt with this or waivers? Once they accept you to come to MEPs are you pretty much fine unless you failed to mention that you are missing limb or something?

I too am a little older but don’t really have any medical history so I feel I’m good on that.
I found out today that I’m going to MEPS Monday and will have my chief nurse interview next week. My recruiter said it will be a FaceTime or zoom interview. Any insight on the CN interview would be great!

Oh WOW!. That's encouraging that MEPS can get you in next week. Pretty jealous of your zoom interview option. I'll let you know after my interview this week how it goes.

Yes please do. The only thing I worry about is that I’m going to be driving/riding to Chicago when I do the interview so I’m not sure how that will be perceived by the CN.

I've had my stuff in process for so long, I can't remember half the steps I've gone through. I started with a Navy package. Cleared MEPS 1 year ago this past March. Navy dropped NPs for 2020 (and 2019 for that matter). Moved to Air Force. Finished all of my interviews last Februaryish. Multiple paperwork changes, waivers, and then a second recruiter to pick up the slack and I was finally told last week it was heading to board. I'm prior service and 40. So hoping everything goes through finally. The waivers were the biggest PITA with all of the military records they had to review and consider. Regardless, my fingers are crossed.

Have any of you been told of the number of applicants they’re accepting this year? My recruiter said he hasn’t been informed. Just wondering if anyone else’s recruiter told them otherwise.

Mine told me for ER there were about 25 last year but may be different this year, that the availability hasn't came out yet. Mine also told me not to get caught up in the numbers available.

Mine is next week so I’ll let you know how it goes. My recruiter said it could last up to 1.5 hours which makes me a little nervous LOL. I’m not sure what we’d have to talk about that long.

I had my CNO interview this week. It was not intimidating at all. The CNO told me about his story, in terms of his Air Force career and how he got where he is. He asked for my story. I would say he spot checked a few things on my resume with some of his questions. We discussed critical thinking in nursing. You should have something on your brain about that. Be prepared to discuss ethics issues. Know the mission of the AF. The values and your personal values. It was very much a conversation, I think largely to make sure you are a good communicator. Also, he had fantastic info about career planning (should I get selected) and advancement. It was fun! Enjoy yours!
