Do AF Nurses get any extra "special" stipend (pay) a month or a yearly bonus for being in? Sort of like the Doctors do...
Thanks

My recruiter did not mention anything about an extra stipend for being a nurse. That would be awesome though! I know you get extra for having a specialty certification like cardiac or ccrn but I dont' know how much that is.

I do not believe there is any extra stipend. I'm a fully qualified ICU nurse with a master's degree and my CCRN. No stipend was offered. Sign on bonus I think is the same for all of nurses.

I get the above bonus with my CCRN and I do not even have to be in the ICU to get it. But the AF is more controlling on who gets what. I have AF colleagues that must be in the ICU to get the bonus.
I would trade the bonus any day of the week for the decreased deployment times in the AF.

I wonder if I'll get the bonus as a flight nurse...46F3, in the AFR. I guess I'll find out soon enough, lol.

So If I was to get to work in the ICU unit in the AF then I have a much higher chance of being deployed then if I worked on a Med-Surg unit....
What the AF calls "deployment" is within the same zip code most of the time or to a non combat zone.
Choose the path that fits your needs.

Hmm....that must by why the AF is taking over so many Army taskings. There is no such thing as a deployment in the same zip code for AF nurses. That is an Army reservist thing......
The Army has a lot of great qualities, but how they treat their soliders, length of deployments, and time between their deployments is not among them.
Trust me. There is such thing. I know b/c I say good bye to them. They go within the same zip but I know some of them get to see the real deployments. As for the Army utilizing the AF for our many tasks, I was personally told by one high brass AF type that it looks good to for them to other things besides the norm daily AF life.
A similar thing is now happening to the Navy. They are now being pulled from where I am and being sent into the combat zones.
Again, choose what fits you.
