Hello guys! I've been reading all the Air Force nursing posts and threads for a few months now, but it doesn't seem like there's been much activity on people applying this July for NTP. I'm just looking for other people who've applied and are twiddling their thumbs like me!! Anyone out there applying for the NTP and not COT?!
Depends on the unit, some units will take you if you are already in the unit or you are a working nurse, because you have training every weekend that you drill. This is what's off the website
Nurse
Clinical Nurse
Overview: Nursing is a highly coordinated activity with the goal of providing optimal care to each patient within the framework of serving a large patient population. Organization and communication are key skills of Clinical Nurses who manage nursing activities, including staffing, supervision, patient advocacy and family education.
Specific Tasks:
Plan, implement and evaluate nursing care for DoD beneficiaries
Identify expected health outcomes and set realistic goals with patients and families
Document nursing actions and activities
Provide adequate staffing and supervision
Requirements:
Bachelor's or Masters degree in nursing from an accredited institution
Training:
For those without a prior military service commission, the first step is completion of Commissioned Officer Training (COT). This 5 week course at Maxwell AFB, AL will familiarize you with military life, your role as an officer and military healthcare.
You are very welcome. If you need more info., email me at [email protected]. I can give you my number then and talk with you directly.
From what I am told. The list has been made, but not released to anyone. Unfortunately I am not privileged to that info. I only have a secret clearance. I have to wait and see like everyone else. I have seen the projected school dates, but that's about it. Wish I did have all the answers! If I did I could give them to my husband, my 22y/o, 19y/o and my 8 y/o twins, so that they could get everything they want! ?
I actually have good news for you guys.
Update: They are still waiting on the final numbers but they are actually planning on TAKING MORE selects than the original projection.
They're taking more selects than they originally planned. They just need to know the budget they have to work with. October 1, 2014 is the start of FY2015. So I'm assuming the U.S. budget should be finalized and national defense funds will be appropriated accordingly to allow for new nurse direct commissions (all of us noobies).
Happy Monday!

Joining the reserves is easy, they take new nurses if there is a slot for you and your rank is depending on your experience. It's one weekend a month and two weeks out of the year. If I wanted to be an officer at the unit where I am drilling at, I would need to see what slots that they have available and if I qualify, then interview with the chief nurse at the unit and pretty much get hired. That is what I will do if I don't get selected, because they told me that I had a slot if I want it. You should go ahead an look into it, doesn't hurt to get started.
