Air Force Jan 2014 COT

Published

Just wanted to start a thread to see who else will be attending COT in January and to share any info that we obtain through the grapevine.

I'm in COT right now so I'll be happy to answer any questions I can.

Dreaming1007,

How is everything? You are ending your 3rd week, right?

Have you gotten any privileges? I know it is best not to worry about that but my family only lives 2 hours from maxwell and I am hoping they can come visit while I am there

Any another things you wish you would have know before?

Thanks for your other post. it was very helpful!

So far so good…finishing up week 3 which has been extended due to the weather so we have some things to do over the weekend. We are currently in phase 2 which is Maxwell privileges. There is nothing really to prepare, they give you everything you need. A lot of yelling the first few days but it dies down, now they speak normal…well depends on who is your flight commander. I would definitely recommend bringing your own printer or printer cable, your own laptop, extra paper and an extra ink cartridge. You will be using it a lot. The internet is terrible so if you can bring a hotspot that would be beneficial as well.

When did your physical exam, chief nurse interview and selection board take place?

Dreaming1007,

Did you get your uniforms altered before you started COT? Complete with name tapes and rank on your ABUs?

Did you purchase your mess dress?

Yes and Yes! Definitely get that done prior to arrival because the alterations here takes forever! And that way you have time to try on your uniforms and get the proper size rather then something that is huge if they run out of your size. We had to purchase mess dress which I also bought and altered ahead of time. Make sure you get your basic nurse corps function badge sewn on as well..function badges are optional but most people have them. So in a nut shell I would purchase as many uniform items you can. As far as boots go, I would recommend the Nike SFB because they did not require any breaking in and a lot of people had a hard time with their boots as far as sizes and causing pain.

Hornfan, not sure if that was directed at me but I went to MEPS in Feb, CN interview in Apr and selection board was in July. Found out in Aug that I was selected. Fully qualified boards run a little different though.

Thanks...that helps!

Congrats to all of you who are graduating tomorrow!!! You made it

So for COT, I'm assuming family is not supposed to come visit? Or are they allowed once you earn privileges?

Specializes in Adult Critical Care.

Well, no one can visit you on the OTS campus regardless of your phase status/privileges. You have to meet people at a base restaurant or off base altogether. You definitely won't be able to see family during the first couple weeks. I'm in the middle of COT right now, so I can't really tell you if and when you get privileges.

For those of you in COT,

When does TMO usually schedule to pack up your home? I am wondering so my wife can make the proper arrangements.
