Just wanted to start a thread to see who else will be attending COT in January and to share any info that we obtain through the grapevine.

You can schedule TMO as soon as you get your orders; this is typically several months prior to COT. You just call the TMO office at the base nearest your home.

Thanks! Did you have your things already packed before you left to COT?

Anyone know why some people from the same selection board get COT dates in January and others get dates for March?

No one ever told me. If you aren't going to NTP and are therefore FQ, I believe it has to do with space in the unit one is going to. A squadron only has the ability to take so many people at a time, based on projected workload.

I don't think space in the COT class is really the limiting factor, because mine was half empty.

The fiscal year starts in October, therefore I don't think it's really a question of budget.

Oh okay! Was just wondering because it seems like half go to January and half go to March. I'm praying that if I get selected, I go to January. Currently having to move back in with the padre to help save money until I get selected. Which God only knows when that will be...so I'm hoping it's sooner rather then later, but as everyone knows, no guarantees there!

Did you drive or fly to COT? How soon did you arrive in Alabama before COT? I would be coming from Maryland, so trying to project somewhat of a timeline here and get some insight!

I drove to COT, but I'm from NC. Having a car at COT is nice, but it's really only marginally helpful. You only get to use it during the last week or so (depending on how 'good' your class behaves). You also need special permission to go anywhere without a 'wingman' while at COT, which also limits a car's usefulness. At least half my class drove, therefore there are plenty of rides available if you decide to fly. The airlines generally let you check 5-6 bags for free with active duty orders, so you can bring all the stuff you want to COT if you fly.

I would recommend shipping your stuff before you leave for COT. It can take 4-6 weeks to ship your stuff to certain places.

Jfratian,

I have a question regarding boots at COT. I was really hoping to use the Nike SFB boots but I've heard they aren't allowed for training. Can you shed light on this or recommend another lightweight boot for COT? Thanks.

Honestly, they probably won't say anything unless the boots aren't sage green. I'm not familiar with that boot in particular, but I did do a google search. They look too light to be sage to me.

I have a pair of belleville sabre boots. It's one of the 2 options they have when you get to COT; they are the lighter-weight option. They break-in really quickly and feel like sneakers, however the ankle support is not very strong. The light-weight options generally don't have rigid ankle support, and they also suck in cold weather.

You can wear the Nike boot, a lot of people had them when I went through COT including myself.
