Air Force FY2016

Hi! This will be my second time applying as a NICU RN for the Air Force. I'm applying to the September boards. It would be great to hear from anyone applying to these boards as well! I posted a different thread a while back about this same thing, but it got no responses. Figured i would try again!

:)

Thanks for the info about COT dates. I'm hoping for March but I'll be there whenever it is. Anyone applied for flight? Congrats to those who found out already and those that have not don't lose heart there is always another chance

So I found out I'm down for COT in May!

From the DC/MD/VA there were 20 selected. Maybe some on here can way in on where their from to get an idea of how many are selected. On the OTS side, over 60% of the applicants from two boards were selected. 189 candidates were selected this month. This is a high number considering the AF just reshaped and reduced the force. COT numbers are almost always lower.

linds28, Did you get a call today on Saturday for your COT date? May seems far. If this is the case, this may explain that the number of selects are high this time around. I just know my recruiter was shocked at the number she submitted that got selected. Every region is different.

20 fq med surg selected in the DC/MD/VA area?? If that's the case then other applicants from another state did not get selected. I'm from Illinois. I emailed my recruiter today and he said he has not heard anything yet.

@ USAF-RNVAL - I am from New England and I haven't heard anything yet either. I'm really hoping that I hear something on Monday when the office reopens.

Specializes in NICU.

My recruiter was briefed yesterday that assignments are being approved in San Antonio and should be out by Wednesday!

Specializes in Med-Surg/Oncology.

I live in the Florida panhandle, alabama, Louisiana area. I don't know how many applicants my recruiter submitted or how many were selected. I am selected for FQ medsurge. My background to compare for selection is I am a 26 year old male. I earned my bachelors in nursing from a major state university with a gpa of only 3.342, though while in college I worked up to three jobs at a time to graduate debt free. I have a little over 3 years medsurg/oncology experience of which about half has been spent as the charge nurse on my shift. I am ancc medsurg certified. I have my acls and ons chemo certifications. Also I have participated in multiple hospital committed and initiatives. Overall I only had a little bit of volunteer work since graduating college. In my chief nurse interview I emphasized looking to make a career of the airforce and pursuing a masters degree to advance in rank. This was my first time applying to the military. That is really all I can think of that went into my application. I can't wait to hopefully find out my assignment this week and look forward to meeting many of you at COT!

20 were selected, not all were Med-Surg. The original date for posting is the week of the 19th. Some of us happened to be notified unofficially early. It could be the end of the month or early next month for all we know. This is the military's "Hurry up and wait ." game. I'm sure everyone is hoping more are selected. Some recruiters don't announce anything until your name name appears on an official order or letter. Don't get discouraged. C yall soon.

Thanks for sharing your FQ applicant package info guys. I appreciate it. I hope to be where you guys are in the not too distant future.

Congrats to the selects!! That's an awesome accomplishment, you should be very proud!!!!

From a prior Air Force nurse who likes to lurk on this forum in order to relive my "glory days" (ha, ha!):
