Air Force FY2016

Hi! This will be my second time applying as a NICU RN for the Air Force. I'm applying to the September boards. It would be great to hear from anyone applying to these boards as well! I posted a different thread a while back about this same thing, but it got no responses. Figured i would try again!

:)

Congrats Morgan! a lot of your posts have been really helpful to me as a am now beginning the process of applying to the Air Force as a NICU nurse! I was wondering if I could pick your brain a bit about the application process and various things you've learned along the way regarding NICU nursing in the AF. My recruiter has been somewhat less than helpful. I'm new to allnurses so I'm not able to use private messaging yet. So I'll have to post a few questions on here.

-what bases have nicus? Fort Sam, Japan, Germany, and Kessler?

-what do you feel like really helped you get in this time versus the first time you applied?

-what does the NICU interview portion entail?

-how many NICU positions were you told there are?

- how long did it take for you to gather all the application parts In order to be ready to submit the application for the first time ? My recruiter thinks I will be able to apply in December but that seems fast.

I have a whole bunch more but let's start with those. Lol. Thanks so much. And congrats again on getting accepted!

@ theflashbang - I got an email today that my recruiting office is waiting to notify because they have not received offical results yet - so hopefully we will find out soon! :)

Did anyone get a list of available COT dates? If you look on their website the only one listed (so far?) is for January. Just wondering if anyone heard other dates from their recruiters for next year.

I haven't heard anything yet either. I still haven't even gotten a MEPS date or signed a commission letter. So, I'm sure it will be coming soon.

What at I did see on the OTS/COT website was out day one out of pocket expenses. Yikes! Wish I had known that over the last year because I would have saved much more than I did!!! Ouch!

Hi Everyone, I have also been selected. I've found out on Oct 7th. Any helpful info will be great for what's coming ahead. My recruiter is also on leave as well. Good luck and see you guys at COT.

I just found out unofficially that I was selected! I was told they have to get the legal work and assignments made before the release the official results. I know of a COT date 11 January and 28 March but I don't know yet which I'll be at.

That's great news flashbang! Congrats!!!

If u don't mind me asking, how many years do you have in critical care? BSN/MSN? Was GPA a factor for FQ?

Brughm, I will have one year of critical care experience this November, with six months experience in the OR. Currently TNCC qualified and may get CCRN soon. I have a BSN, my recruiter said GPA is one they weigh heavy on but who knows.

Thanks for the response flashbang. Congrats again and good luck with COT.

Base assignments and cot dates anyone? I was told within the next week or two and it's been a week just wondering if anyone got their cot date yet

Like many, I was notified of my FQ med-surg selection about a week ago and am patiently waiting for my COT/start date, etc. My recruiter had mentioned that the program director is the one who manually enters in all of the information, and last week they were out on vacation so with one person doing it, and the one person gone on vacation, I'm sure that person is playing catch up.

A few posts mentioned GPA, I'm not sure how much that plays into factor however I do remember my interview with the chief nurse mentioning my GPA and we had a short discussion about it. I'm comfortable enough to share, my overall undergraduate gpa was a 3.48, however, it is mostly lower due to all my prerequisites. All my nursing courses were generally 3.6+ with 2 4.0s (that I am VERY proud of, since I worked my butt off to get..nearly impossible to 4.0 anything).

I'll update this thread with any information I get, hopefully I can meet someone in the same COT and help interested nurses along their journey to get where I am now. It was a heck of an application process.

I found out last week that I was selected FQ Med/surg. My recruiter said he didn't think many people would be going to COT in January from this selection board, that most would be March 28th or May. It seems like most people on here were accepted. Does anyone know how many applied for Med/Surg and how many were accepted this time around?
