Hi everyone,
I´m a registered nurse from Germany with 4 years experience. Went to the whole registration process with ahpra and waited 7 months. Today I received an email, that they are considering to refuse my application. The reason for that is, that they do not consider my training as equivalent with the Australian one. That is really a joke. Has someone ever been in this situation before? How did you write your appeal letter?
My question is should I re apply for enrolled nurse and waste my time waiting, take my chances that regulations may change again and my application is refused again or should I study for bachelors by getting some credit transfer???
I am really confused and tired of all this back and forth application mess.
Goodness, what a pain, and surely they could have used same application for EN, but then they go on about working as an EN as well before application - between rock and hard place - go for the Bachelor of Nursing if you want to be an RN get some credit, get on with it.
What can I say, apologise for what seems to be a very narrow view on your education and post education experience.
If you need to get into a degree in Victoria, most go through VTAC - central admissions centre, they are closing very soon in the next few days. You could have this wrapped up in 1-2 years. Good Luck.
Most undergraduate Bachelor degrees dealt with by a central agency- VTAC - website: delta.vtac.edu.au - Home on reflection, however it would be in your best interests first to contact universities about your plan and most likely with your circumstances will not need to go through them.
As for most excepted university nursing degrees, no such thing in Australia as every degree is accredited by ANMAC so, go to a uni that is most convienentt to you.
Hi Ceridwyn,
Just to update you on the Bachelor and Master further education status. I did call Melbourne Uni regarding their Masters Program, they said if my bachelors were not weighed by AHPRA, the possibilities are that I cant do Master with them because they may not recognize my bachelors too. So Masters is out of question. I did try calling Monash, the lady at the other end said she will get someone to call me me on my query.
La Trobe, on the other hand, said that I will need to do their Bachelor in Nursing (pre registration) program which is 3 years. I will submit my application and see if I can get a credit transfer. Tomorrow is the last day for application submission. In your opinion, is 3 years bachelors worth the try? I feel it is very long and equivalent to the normal bachelor of nursing...

Hi Thanks for your reply,
I did submit an appeal in May when i received a letter from AHPRA that they are proposing to refuse my registration application. I did reason out in my appeal. The reply that was sent to me according to the board's decision was that my qualifications does not match the qualification to be registered as registered nurse in australia. In the letter they said that my diploma qualification is seemingly comparable with the diploma level here but not enough to be registered as a registered nurse.
This clearly shows that they have disregarded my bachelors completely.
I did email my case manager in AHPRA to ask if i can aaply for enrolled nurse, this is her reply for me:
Your application for registered nurse registration was refused by the Board and the application has been withdrawn from our system. Under section 80(5) of the National Law, and to ensure AHPRA’s compliance with State and Territory Public Records Act/s, all documents received from you will be retained by the Agency with your application file for auditing purposes. This means we cannot use any of these documents on a new application and also these documents cannot be returned to an applicant.
If you wish to apply for Enrolled Nursing registration you will be required to complete a new application form, provide all the supporting documentation, meet all current registration standards and pay the required fees.
In regard to meeting the Recency of Practice Standard, if applicants apply for EN registration they must provide evidence they must have practised as an Enrolled Nurse in the past 5 years for a minimum of 3 months full time. Working as a registered nurse will not meet the ROP standard for Enrolled Nursing registration, they must have worked as a registered Enrolled nurse.
Also if you wish to apply for EN registration your application will be reviewed by the Board and one of the possible outcomes is you would need to complete a Bridging Program for overseas qualified enrolled nurses. Currently there are very few courses available.
