Hi everyone,
I´m a registered nurse from Germany with 4 years experience. Went to the whole registration process with ahpra and waited 7 months. Today I received an email, that they are considering to refuse my application. The reason for that is, that they do not consider my training as equivalent with the Australian one. That is really a joke. Has someone ever been in this situation before? How did you write your appeal letter?
Slightly off topic I applied to AHPRA and they lodged my application on the 15 October 13. They advised me to contact them in 6 weeks for an update if I haven't heard from them in the interim.
I haven't heard from them so I emailed them on Tuesday 3 December and got a long winded reply however at the end of the email it says my application is in the final stages and I will hear from a registration officer shortly.
Does anyone know if this means they haven't actually check my application yet and are just fobbing me off or is this actually as it says and my reg should be through shortly?
Shugster8....no idea what it means...it could be anything from final stages before giving you registration to final stages before telling you - you need to do a Bridging Program. You never know with APHRA.
I'm curious, where did you study and work?? What's your experience?? As you can tell many (most) of us are European trained nurses holding a bachelor's degree - and we're struggling to get recognised and to even get an answer as to why they think we all need to do a bridging program. So interested to hear your story :)
I am a UK trained Mental Health Nurse studied at the university of Stratchclyde in Glasgow. I have a BSC in nursing and currently doing a masters and I'm a nurse prescriber.
Well since applying on 15 Oct I have had no correspondence from ahpra whatsoever other than when I emailed them to enquire about my application. I am waiting patiently for even the name of a registration officer who I could contact to ask what's happening with the application. I'm hoping after 6-7 weeks all must be good or they would have requested further information.
Hi all,
I called AHPRA couple of days back, to equire about my chances of getting registered with AHPRA. The lady on other end had no clue about required qualification and she THINKS diploma is for enroll nurses and degree for registered nurses. I tried to explain its 3 years full time diploma with classroom and clinical experience. But as expeted I was told to apply for assessment.Anyways I am planning to give OET in january hoping I will be succeed with AHPRA.
Shugster8 - you shouldn't have any problems considering you have a bachelor degree from UK. The only thing they might ask you to sit is the IELTS-exam (English proficiency) - it wouldn't be the first time they asked a native English speaker to do that. Good luck with your application.
Bobby82 - I'm not surprised about the information given to you. They make sure you get to spend some money on their assessment. It would be nice if they could be a bit more open and just say "look, this is what you need...etc" - it would save them and all of us a lot of time and money if they were more upfront. Or they could do with New Zealand does - write up front that everyone needs a bridging program before even being considered for registration in NZ. At least then you'd know. Good luck with everything.

Thanks for the update, yes 3 years is awhile but the years are flying past these days, hopefully you can apply and then apply to get a few credits, which you can apply for after being accepted into the course, you may still end up finishing earlier if you are given 1st year subjects and second year.
It's actually up to the universities descretion how much credit give, after a few assessments- mind you, you, will have to be the one pushing for exemptions.
