Hello All
I was just wondering how the rest of the country is getting on with the 'agenda for change'? I'm an E grade and still haven't been 'banded' but all my D & F grades colleagues have been banded and paid, some more handsome amount than others. I have read how it is supposed to work ie how the banding & pay is calculated but the way the whole thing has been introduced is rather confusing .
Is there anyone out there able to explain plz?
I had just reached top F but the other F grade has been there for years so yes she starts her increments again from Oct.
All our E's got band 5, some of the G's in the trust got band 6 so not much incentive to be ward manager. There's no money to pay anybody, dunno where they think the money is coming from for the wages rises.
Now we have to start KSF's, really not looking forward to doing those

I am a G grade, and although I don't know for sure, I believe I will be offered a band 6. I have a masters and am studying for a PhD as well as managing my own caseload. I don't manage staff and have no financial responsibility which is why I only get a 6. Needless to say I am lookng for other jobs too...
The reason why people have varying amounts of money paid to them is that even if you are put on the same band, you are assimilated across to the next pay spine above the one you are on now, so if you earned say £18000 and he spine was either £17995 or £18500, you would go across to the £18500 level. Your colleagues may get more or less depending on how many increments they have had etc. in the past.
Ok, AFC is sounding more and more crazy all the time.
I thought, clearly wrongly, that people like midwifes would automatically be band 6. If our emergency nurse E grades are, rightly, being offered band 6, why the heck wouldn't midwifes?
Our F's I believe are band 6, not sure about the G's... but are top band.
Karen, your E's are leaving because they are band 6? Seriously? Yes, they have alot of responsibility, but no more than Emergency nurses who work Resus daily... and bearing in mind that our F grades are band 6, I'm not sure what they think they'll get elsewhere!
Fonenurse, I can see why you are thinking you will be paid band 6 despite being a G grade, but from what I read and remember from meetings, qualifications are taken into concideration as well as responsibilities, so in theory you should either be absolute top band 6 or lower 7, surely?
Personally, I think its going to take ages to iron out the troubles with banding, apart from the confusion of ward nurse Ds and Es both being band 5, it all goes crazy after that!
As for KSF, I've seen the faces of the poor seniors coming back off the course, my sympathies to everyone who has to go through it!

But Claire, The point is that it is the job that is banded, not the person, and I am over qualified for the job - it does not even require a degree, hence the banding. If I want to be paid according to my skills, I will have to move to another job.
As for KSF, I love it! I am the KSF trainer for my workplace, and it is a great tool for staff to be developed - providing the organisation is signed up to succession planning and developing its staff.
hi Claire
I said the midwifes are moving.... they are G at the moment so are not getting pay rises and in some cases they will be worse off after the regrading.
anyway........... will all matter in the community? after all they are busy reorganising community services again and its all up in the air as to who employs the staff... and no guarantee that AfC will be honoured!

whos feeling just a little cynical about the whole thing!

Just got my afc pay and it was a staggering £12.00 Waow can't think what I'll spend that on... ohh yeah that's right the tax man took it!!!
We were all enquiring what people got for their's and one girl got about a £1000.. We were told it is the money you get if you have been off sick, so think they have basically shot themselves in the foot with this one now there is no insentive to hurry back to work if you are off sick, I mean some girls feel guilty when they are off sick (like me) and only don't go to work if they can't lift their head off the pillow but others phone in sick because they have had too much to drink the night before. This really infuriates me as they are now earning more for being off their work... :angryfire

:) Hi!
£12 huh? I know they say that it is all experience & skill based!!
Maybe you lack experience in that department & therefore need to learn more from being off sick!! (JK)

well forgive me for being cynical.......
but this very much reminds me of the last regrading we had.. many years ago.
in my area midwifes are leaving because they are banded at 6. (with the responsibilty that goes with being a madwife, I'd have expected a 7) NP's are getting 7... I am expecting a 7 and wanted an 8- my JD says nurse practitioner/community matron/lead practice nurse. I'd doing a masters, have a string of qualifictions but because I dont directly manage any nurses then its a 7..........guess whos leaving the pct? I expected to have to be JAQ'd but the pct have decided not to bother (I am the only one of my kind in the pct!)
I dont know of anyone who has done well out of this.
