After Taking The NCLEX...I Passed My 5th Time!

Published

:heartbeathey everyone,

i promised myself that once i passed my nclex, i would start a forum to help others pass as well! this time the advice i can give is the following:

~keep jesus at the head of your life!

~pray!

~exercise and eat a well balanced diet!

~use multiple nursing resources....i used the following (saunder's nclex review, hurt online review course, exam cram, lacharity prioritization, delegation and management, prentice hall nursing review)!

~set a goal for each day and stick with it!

~when you answer questions go through all of the rationales they really do help!

~make flashcards on the stuff you are not 100% sure on!

~use every moment you have to study, even if it's just going through your flashcards!

~take some breaks, take a morning here and there to reelax your mind!

~study with someone who knows what they are doing!

~believe in yourself, you can do this! :):heartbeat

I have taken plenty of NCLEX style exams be it through my nursing school, ATI, or doing it myself online. If it takes me five tries to meet the most minimum of safety requirements as a nurse, I might think my career. Not to mention that, after five tries, isn't there some sort of nursing remediation required?

What should I take notes on exactly? How not to pass a test?

Being an RN is not ALL that matters. What matters is the safety of the patients.

GRRR. I'm just going to give you my share of cents, and then I'll toss your unnecessary comment out of the window.

If I was soooo dumb and sooooo bad at taking care of my patients, WOULDN'T YOU THINK THAT I WOULD BE KICKED OUT of the dang program a long time ago?! Seriously. I have horrible test anxiety too, horrible. OH, wait did I mention to you that I got A's in clinical care though, just like the OP? I think that makes a WHOLE lot of difference. Believe me, I would def rethink about my career IF i had failed clinicals or barely passed. But that didn't happen. I can't believe a person would be so low to even downgrade people who didn't pass one test to make them a nurse, esp. when all of us went through the whole nursing program, studied so incredibly hard, and made it. Nursing school isn't and wasn't a jolly easy ride!

Did you know that about 90% of what you learned in the classroom doesn't even compare to what you will know in the REAL WORLD of working! Once again, talked to lots of nurses saying that nursing school (classroom) is totally different that working in a real job, and you'll learn SOOOOO much more when your actually working as a nurse. TONS of nurses say that. I talked to a girl just recently that graduated back in 09, she works at a hospital. Totally says real world life working as a nurse is totally different than nursing school. Nursing school is just a foundation.....just like taking this dang test is. I would also like to point out that in a job interview, they are NOT going to ask you how many times you failed or if you passed the nclex on the first try!! With that being said, if it was that big of a deal that people did not pass the nclex on their 1st or 5th try, wouldn't the job interviewer ask that sort of question then?? If you haven't taken the NCLEX yet... i would be a little worried. KARMA really is a biocth so I would just be prepared.

You're probably going to be one of 'those' nurses someday who always comes into work with a negative attitude on life, and brings there troubles to work. I can totally picture it. I wouldn't want some nurse with a negative attitude taking care of me that's for sure, or work with one! (I mean, I do have every right to assume that, since your assuming that people who fail the nclex are not going to be good nurses.) It's almost like you WANT to make us angry & argue with us---->(Another red-flag of bad attitude if you ask me)

There's always time to change, and look at life in a positive way:)

WOW I started this link as something positive and to bring hope to others and then you have some people who just can't be happy for others. Cupcake of course I know that nursing is a very serious profession and i hope you did read in my response to slobgob that I am going to be taking an RN refresher course because I do know the seriousness....this post could've brought some hope for you I don't know your story......all i can say is try to be happy for others....and lastly YES if you don't have JESUS in your life you may want to give Him a try it is the best decision you will ever make.....Have a Blessed Day :heartbeat

#1 - I love Slobgob

#2 - I do not know how anyone can spend all that clinical time in nursing school, and then be terrible when they get on the floor for their first job. Additionally, I do not know how anyone can take many many NCLEX style exams in nursing school, PASS, and then fail the actual NCLEX many many times. This is not meant to offend, but Slobgob pointed out legitimate concerns. Although they may not be the most pleasant to face, they are still perfectly valid.

#3 - Passing the NCLEX with 75 questions is something to brag about.

Passing the NCLEX with 75 questions on the fifth try is not something to brag about.

Just my two (or three?) cents. You can all tell me what a meanie head I am now and how I need jesus in my life.

Specializes in LTC.

I have been on many nursing job interviews and no one EVER asked how many times I took my boards. I have an interview tomorrow and another next week and I'm sure those questions won't come up. OP I wish you much success in your career. I'm done on this thread.

Congratulations!!!!:nurse: You didn't give up and it paid off for you...my daughter just took the NCLEX for the 6th time and found out she didn't pass...she wants to give up we are encouraging her to never give up....:crying2:
