After Taking The NCLEX...I Passed My 5th Time!

Published

:heartbeathey everyone,

i promised myself that once i passed my nclex, i would start a forum to help others pass as well! this time the advice i can give is the following:

~keep jesus at the head of your life!

~pray!

~exercise and eat a well balanced diet!

~use multiple nursing resources....i used the following (saunder's nclex review, hurt online review course, exam cram, lacharity prioritization, delegation and management, prentice hall nursing review)!

~set a goal for each day and stick with it!

~when you answer questions go through all of the rationales they really do help!

~make flashcards on the stuff you are not 100% sure on!

~use every moment you have to study, even if it's just going through your flashcards!

~take some breaks, take a morning here and there to reelax your mind!

~study with someone who knows what they are doing!

~believe in yourself, you can do this! :):heartbeat

Congratulations.

That said. And I certainly hosted a furious debate in my mind about a response...

You took the test 5 times. Let's say you get 5 patients your first day, how many will you "fail"?

From now on, you don't get to fail. You don't get to "pray to Jesus" that you won't error and still expect that you'll end up okay.

This sounds harsh. I know this. I'm not completely cold. But I've seen both sides and I've watched gross incompetence from nurses that barely know what they're doing.

I suppose I just want to say: We're not playing school anymore. Sometimes you only get one chance. With someone's well being in your hands, are you willing to fail again?

Wow-- yes their life must completely suck. Whoever wrote this seems like a real negative something. Kind of irritates me because I have failed the nclex twice, but I did pass nursing school which was hard as heck. Just ignore what that SLOB wrote, because that was literally the dumbest post ever. This is suppose to be a positive and supportive site. You don't need that negative energy!

Congrats to you and wish you the best! :)

Just so I don't waste anyone's time wondering... yes, my life sucks. =)

What year did you take the nclex, Slobgob? Because it kind of looks like you joined in 2005 or 06 so therefore it's been awhile since you taken it huh? Well, you know 7 or 10 or even 20 years ago, nursing school was easier and so was the nclex. I have talked to some older nurses who went to nursing school, oh maybe back in 2000 or 2003. They say it isn't anything near like it is today. It's a very tough program now, probably because all of the lawsuits that are going on. I wonder what it will be like another 5 years down the road. Who knows, maybe you would be one of the "failing" ones also if you had to take it this day in age. Doesn't mean your dumb, it's just that it's tough! Just pointing that out. Now i'll end it.

Well Said !!! :yeah:

Another thing is that some people are poor test takers. This does not mean that they are dumb or not able to use critical thinking.

WOW! I just read this post and let me let in on a little secret Slobgob.....Just because someone isn't the best "test-taker" let's say, that doesn't mean they are not good with the stuff that actually matters which is the hands on. I know people who went through nursing school with straight A's and passed their NCLEX the 1st time and guess what....when they got on the floor to take care of a patient they were horrible! They didnt even have the "common sense". I understand what you are saying and that is why I am going to take a RN refresher course, but please don't judge people who don't pass tests I rather not be a good test taker and have A's in clinical which is actually my story, give me something to do hands on and I can but I am just not good (oh wait let me say I WASN'T good with answering questions before this time when I passed with 75 questions)...believe me I don't say that to brag at all but sometimes you have to shine a little light on someone's misjudged response. BE Blessed and I have no hard feelings towards you.

Congratulations.

Thank NurseLoveJoy88! :) :heartbeat

Slobgob, does your life suck that bad that you cannot be happy for someone ? I don't care if the op took the NCLEX over 50 times.... She passed !!! She has been persistent and worked very hard to achieve her license and any patient would be blessed to have her. You have nurses that take their boards once and pass but then kill a patient. OP you hold your head up high and don't pay attention to this negativity. You are a RN and you will succeed. God is AWESOME !

Seriously I will keep you in my prayers....For you to say that your life sucks I don't think you would be playing around with that. :crying2: But I know one thing.....If you put or keep Christ at the head of your life you will see a change...your life won't be perfect...but it will be so much more fulfilling and amazing! :) Jesus loves you so much and He cares about you a whole lot. :)

Thank You To Everyone for The Congrats! :heartbeat

#1 - I love Slobgob

#2 - I do not know how anyone can spend all that clinical time in nursing school, and then be terrible when they get on the floor for their first job. Additionally, I do not know how anyone can take many many NCLEX style exams in nursing school, PASS, and then fail the actual NCLEX many many times. This is not meant to offend, but Slobgob pointed out legitimate concerns. Although they may not be the most pleasant to face, they are still perfectly valid.

#3 - Passing the NCLEX with 75 questions is something to brag about.

Passing the NCLEX with 75 questions on the fifth try is not something to brag about.

Just my two (or three?) cents. You can all tell me what a meanie head I am now and how I need jesus in my life.

Haha. Your post made me laugh... coming from someone who has not even taken a NCLEX exam before. If I were you instead of hating on the OP you and that SLOB should get a pen, a pad, and a brain and take notes. At the end of the day the OP is a RN. That is ALL that matters.

I have taken plenty of NCLEX style exams be it through my nursing school, ATI, or doing it myself online. If it takes me five tries to meet the most minimum of safety requirements as a nurse, I might think my career. Not to mention that, after five tries, isn't there some sort of nursing remediation required?

What should I take notes on exactly? How not to pass a test?

Being an RN is not ALL that matters. What matters is the safety of the patients.

You have NOT taken the NCLEX and received a nursing license yet. Until you do... maybe then you will have a little more room to look down on people that are not good at taking exams. I do agree that being a RN is not ALL that matters, that is obvious. I was implying that now she has passed she has a license and that is a pretty darn good accomplishment. You need to take notes on many other things other than passing an NCLEX. One note you need to take is how to use critical thinking and know that failing a NCLEX exam does NOT mean one is not competent enough to practice nursing or that one would be a less safe nurse. It is called test anxiety. Besides no one cares how many times you have taken the NCLEX exam. Taking the boards has nothing much to do with how much you know. One must have great test taking skills. I was faced with many questions where I had no idea what the answer was however I have excellent test taking skills and was able to pass first try, others don't. Failing the NCLEX x amount of times before passing does not make someone incompetent.
