Affordable DNP

Anyone know of a quality...affordable DNP online program that offers nursing education as a specialty??

I think nurse educators tend to lean towards an EdD or PhD instead of a DNP which is mostly based on clinical research. I don't know of any programs that offer a DNP that focuses on nursing education only.

Specializes in NICU, ICU, PICU, Academia.

Touro University Nevada has an online DNP. Tuition is $500/ credit.

University of Southern Indiana has a DNP (not specifically for education) and tuition is under $400/ credit IIRC

Those are the two least expensive I've found.

DNPs do NOT focus on clinical research- quite the opposite. A DNP is focused on translating evidence to practice. A PhD or EdD is a research-based doctoral degree.

All these designations are just confusing.. DNaP, DNP, PhD.,EdD Sounds like someone in politics is having fun manufacturing all these designations...

There it is! I was waiting for someone to correct me. As I said before most of the programs are not streamlined in just nursing education to which I believe the OP was asking. I did not say all I said mostly. Thank you for the correction.

You won't find DNP programs that offer nursing education as a specialty. A few quotes from a recent (August 2015) AACN white paper will explain why:

"The task force reaffirms that the discipline of education encompasses an entirely separate body of knowledge and competence (AACN, 2004, p. 13) and is not an area of advanced nursing practice.

c. Additional preparation in the nurse educator role may be included as optional coursework within the DNP program."

"Practice as a nurse educator should not be included in the DNP practice hours. The focus of a DNP program, including practicum and DNP Project, should not be on the educational process, the academic curriculum, or on educating nursing students."

Above quotes are from "The Doctor of Nursing Practice: Current Issues and Clarifying Recommendations. Report from the Task Force on the Implementation of the DNP". Available at http://www.aacn.nche.edu/aacn-publications/white-papers/DNP-Implementation-TF-Report-8-15.pdf

So, you may be able to find a program that has an optional segment on nursing education, but you won't (or shouldn't, at least according to ACCN) find one that has a focus/specialty on/in nursing education.
