Affinity, KARE, abnormal

Hi there,

I am being monitored in KY by the KARE program, use Affinity for UDS, my result came back as "abnormal" nothing further at this time. Anyone have any experience with this and what happens next? I have already emailed my monitoring agent, I am clean and sober for 6 months.....wondering what happens next? This is my VERY first screen with the KYBON!

Different state but we also use affinity -- I've had a dilute come back as "abnormal" in the system.

thanks for the reply, what did your state do? Just curious, thanks again

Made me take a pETH test (alcohol is my doc otherwise I think it would have been a hair test?), which I passed. That's kinda new. Previously they would have just made me repeat the UA. It's not that big of a deal in my state, not considered a non-compliance or relapse or anything. There's probably something in your contract or handbook that addresses dilutes if that's what the abnormal is. I'd call your program first thing in the morning.

It may be to dilute to test ? That seems to be what Affinity reports for a dilute specimen.

Still not sure what was up with the result, but my monitor isn't too worried about it, I had another test yesterday, adjusted my fluid intake, so hopefully this won't be a problem again! Thanks for all the comments, appreciate them. I finally just calmed myself down, because I am clean, 6 months yesterday....so whatever, I can't worry about insignificant things like an abnormal UDS!! :) Glad this site is here, definitely helps when I am freaking!

I had abnormals when I was in monitoring with Affinity. Usually indicates a dilute screen. My monitoring state sent me a letter, instructing me on how to hydrate myself properly after that but I didn't get into trouble.

I have just had an abnormal UDS and I'm freaking out. why was yours abnormal? what happened? who is your case manager...i have sherry murray

Hi there, my monitor is the same as yours. When I had my face to face with her, she was cool, not concerned about the abnormal, said it was my creatinine level, told me to NOT drink water before the tests, stick with juice, and/or milk. She also said that the board doesn't get in a twist so much about abnormals...she said DILUTES are not good. So, take a deep breath, it will all be okay. Can you remember what you drank that day and when? I have developed a system that works for me now, so I am not as anxious any longer about it.

many thnx for the reply... I've just reentered kare after a suspension so this stuff terrifies me. will she csll me in or send a letter? I'm not sure i want her to know i look at my results. I drank too much coffee and water meeting wirh sponsees. my typical dribk diet. i will change it on test days

I actually emailed her when I looked up my result and it said abnormal, I sent a little explanation along with it (what I drank and when, etc) she emailed me back and said that if she required anything further she would let me know. That was that! It is totally up to you, but I always lean toward the proactive side of things..you are in charge of your recovery...so, stay in control of it!! Personally, I do not see anything unusual about looking up my results, and I don't think she will either! :)

I had an abnormal come back and was told it was due to high creatinine

I've been in a monitoring program for almost 3 years. I've had 3 "abnormal" results. The first time I freaked out! Anxiety attack...Chest pain, shortness of breath... I've always been so careful with what I eat & cautious about my hydration on the days that I test. I don't want to have a "dilute". The result came back on a Sunday morning. It was a stressful 24 hours until I could talk to my case manager!

She was awesome! I had a high creatinine level. She said that could be related to illness or dehydration. I looked back to the day I had tested. It was a very hot summer day. We live on a farm & I had been outside giving vaccinations to about 40 of our livestock. In fact, the other 2 abnormals happened on the same day or day after that I had some similar outdoor chores. My case manager was understanding but reminded me of the need to hydrate when it's so hot.

These abnormals have been spaced out over several months with many negative UDTs in between. I was told to email an explanation each time for my file. Nothing else happened. My case manager did say it would be more concerning if all of these were "dilute" instead of "abnormal".
