AE MSN at UT Austin Summer 2012

Published

Anybody out there applying to the UT Austin AEMSN program for summer 2012? Haven't seen any posts about our group of hopefuls yet.

Nice. That seems like a pretty decent amount. Plus, there were only 12 interview slots to choose from for my public health interview, so hopefully they will offer a seat to the majority of interviewees. *crossing fingers*

When do you have to declare?

I think you'll be fine. Adult Health CNS (which apparently is getting a name-change?) and the Psych NP are the super-hard tracks to get into.

And I'm declaring in November. I have to retake my Adult Health Clinical course (don't ask...) so I'll be with your cohort for that class, if you end up enrolling.

I really wish I could sit in on admissions lol. I want to know exactly how the process works.

Whoever else applied to Adult Health, was there a certain number of "slots" to choose from for the interview? As I said in an earlier post, I never received an email, she called me instead. Just curious. Then again, they may separate the slots by role specialty (??? meaning teaching, administration, etc.).

Also, the person who interviewed me said it could even be early to mid-March. Ugh. But if it does take that long, knowing it COULD take that long is better so that I don't completely freak out.

I wonder how big the child health group is... I'm guessing no more than 10 slots?

The lady at my interview told me for the Psych NP program, she and the committee will meet at the end of January and for our program, we'll hear around mid February. I will be so crush if I got denied because I felt really good coming out of the interview, especially when my interviewer said to me at the end that she's "crossing her fingers" for me. :)

Would you still attend the program if they offered you a different track? They might do that for some people

For those who don't get into the program, I was told that the school of Nursing and NOT the programs decide on who will be the "undeclares." I would be glad to take any opportunity that I can get. I'm already thankful that I received an interview. Now it's the waiting part that is keeping me antsy.

Yeah I feel like this is the worst part cause there's nothing left to do!

I've talked to fellow Undeclareds about this, and we were in general agreement that we actually ended UP undeclared. It was nice because we actually got to sample several of the courses throughout the program, and then were courted by the professors of the open tracks in November.

For instance, I was a little unhappy when I didn't get into Psych NP, but after actually taking my Psych class and the rotation, I just realized I wasn't really into it. So if I'd gotten into the track, I might have been stuck in something I just didn't want to do.

And I'm glad 10,000 times over I didn't apply to Adult Health CNS. I personally hate, hate, hate, HATE any thing to do with pathophysiology and adult health clinicals. So I know for sure that's one track I won't be applyin' for in November!

You could just buy Jarvis's "Physical Assessment" textbook and start reading it cover-to-cover now. I'm pretty sure all nursing schools use that textbook anyway.
